West Virginia Turnpike tolls increase 60 percent

West Virginia Turnpike tolls increase 60 percent

Quote:
he West Virginia Parkways Authority, which oversees the state turnpike, voted unanimously on Wednesday, July 1, to increase tolls by 60 percent for cars and trucks. Despite opposition and an OOIDA Call to Action to members to fight the proposal, the Parkways Authority’s board of directors voted to increase truck tolls on the West Virginia Turnpike from $4.25 to $6.75.

The Parkways board agreed to implement a $1 discount for holders of West Virginia E-ZPass accounts or the equivalent from out of state.

Parkways officials said they need to increase revenue by $73 million per year for a few years and up to $100 million per year by 2025.

The most common complaints officials received during the public process in June were about fairness and about traffic diverting to secondary roads.
