Class 8 truck sales improve in June, down 33% for year Class 8 truck sales improve in June, down 33% for year Quote: Heavy duty trucks sales in June improved by 15.1 percent from May, but the year-over-year and year-to-date comparisons are each down more than 30 percent — and 2008 was the worst year for big trucks in a long time. According to figures provided to The Trucker by Ward’s Automotive, June Class 8 sales totaled 8,006 trucks in the United States, the second highest total this year behind the 8,222 trucks sold in March. From just an unscientific observation, truck sales were up on used units for two reasons. (1) I have been keeping up with truck prices, and June saw a good sized drop in prices for used trucks. I expect July prices to drop some more, as prices seem to drop more in June and July. (2) Drivers out of work that can't find a new job are buying trucks to have something to do.
