Trucking employment dips again in July

Quote:
Seasonally adjusted trucking employment peaked in January 2007 at more than 1.45 million, according to BLS figures. Since then, for-hire trucking companies have shed 191,500 jobs, or 13.2 percent.

In July, the decline in trucking employment outpaced that in the entire U.S. economy. Non-farm payroll employment fell by 247,000 jobs or 0.2 percent from May to June on a seasonally adjusted basic. Compared to June 2008, non-farm payroll employment is down 4.2 percent

I think they get numbers from those collecting unemployment so it could be much worse.

This is all occupations but gives you an idea of how much greater the numbers can be. That's about 16% compared to the 9% which is being reported.

Quote:
Nailing down the actual percentage of unemployed Americans is exceedingly tricky. The Labor Department uses a survey method, like a poll, to gauge unemployment -- not a Census-style head count. The survey tries to determine the number of unemployed as a percentage of the labor force, but the labor force is only defined as those who are looking for work.
Quote:
But if laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have settled for part-time work are included the unemployment rate would have been 16.3 percent in July. That's down from 16.5 percent in June, which was the highest on records dating to 1994 -- but still higher than a few months ago.

You're right, it's just about double for all occupations, and probably more for trucking.

Let's spend more tax payer money.....WIA type programs, are paying for un-qualified US citizens, to train at CDL school's.
"I got 10 DWI, four misdemeanors, and a dope charge.....BUT, I can get trained for free, and never see a truck?"
Maybe, the States need to get there own "Pre-hire" formula...Before they give out this money?
......Let alone training for a NON existent job !
