Trucker gets ticket for 7,000-gallon gasoline spill in Morris Township

Quote:
Morris Township police have issued a careless driving summons to the driver of a tanker that flipped yesterday afternoon at Whippany Road and Lindsley Drive, spilling an estimated 7,000 gallons of gasoline that fouled the Whippany River, snarled traffic and prompted evacuations from the Westin Governor Morris hotel and the Lindsley Arms Apartments.

Eric T. Majette, 38, of Ewing was driving a Mac truck operated by Lee Transport Systems LLC of Elmer, NJ. He was treated for minor injuries at Morristown Memorial Hospital and released, according to a statement issued this morning by Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi.

Residents were allowed back to their apartments at 10:45 last night; nobody had to sleep at Morristown High School, said Capt. Jeff Paul, a spokesman for the prosecutor.

Do truckers have some sort of extra or special insurance to cover stuff like this? From what I can gather from previous threads, a lot of companys will fire you for an accident of this nature, so I'm guessing in theory they aren't liable for the clean up costs.

If it all went down the river, there is not much left to clean up...LOL... Lucky for him.

The solution to pollution is dilution as the old engineering saying goes.
