Class 8 truck sales dip in July, 2009 down 33 percent

Heavy duty trucks sales in July fell slightly compared to the month before, with the year-over-year and year-to-date comparisons each down by a third — and 2008 was the worst year for big trucks in a long time.

According to figures provided to The Trucker by Ward’s Automotive, July Class 8 sales totaled 7,503 trucks in the United States, falling 6.3 percent from June’s 8,006 trucks. Only June and March (8,222 trucks) have topped the 8,000 unit mark.

The July number is 32.9 percent lower than June a year ago (11,174 trucks).
