Drivers Still Unhappy With Their Jobs, Survey Says

Quote:
About half of drivers said they don't feel respected in their jobs, and many feel undervalued, according to a recent survey taken at truckstops.

While more than half of respondents are happy with the job and would recommend the trucking industry, 65 percent said they would remain with their company only until something better comes along.

The survey found that 30 percent did not make enough to meet their needs, and more than half don't feel they have a well-defined future in their current jobs. Of those surveyed, 80 percent have three to 10 years of driving experience, while 55 percent have more than 10 years under their belt.

Let's see...

...a job that takes away the best years of your life, ruins your health, destroys your marriage, robs you of time with your family, prevents you from having any meaningful relationships with anyone, drains your self respect and rewards with inhumane treatment by shippers/r'cvrs, even your employer treats you as a secondary citizen, persecution by Law Enforcement at every turn(even in your own hometown), living conditions that would be unacceptable for even animals let alone people, crappy truckstops that offer crappier(<--- is that a real word?) food and service and a paycheck that seems to get smaller every year!!! A job that offers no real satisfaction emotionally or fiancally.

Any more dumb questions???

tru dat! i had a pretty good conversation with the female who was cutting my hair about an hour ago. there was definitely something there. i wanted to get her digits and see if she wanted to go out tomorrow night. i decided not to because it would have been a waste of time and energy due to my job. maintaining relationships is pretty much impossible. most of my long-time friendships are strained, and my circle of friends becomes smaller with each passing year.

the lifestyle truckers are too stupid to read the writing on the wall. the lifestyle truckers are also too damned stupid to realize they're being taken advantage of, and that this is the bottom of the barrel as far as employment is concerned. they're the ones who'll chastise anybody who dares complain about the "lifestyle" of being a trucker.

I've given up. My circle of friends these days are the drivers at the truckstop counter who feel like having a conversation. As far as anything more intimate, one night stand is my limit. Why subject a woman who doesn't drive to a man in love with the road? Women generally hate taking second place to anything, much less a job.

yep, and that's why i didn't bother going any further with our conversation. i'll definitely take the one night stand or set up some kind of booty call kind of thing. as for anything more meaningful, forget it.

i was also planning on restarting school this fall. it's not going to happen because of a local employment opportunity fell through. i can't do the online because i'd become horribly distracted while i'm on the computer. i have to sit in a classroom and take it all in. it's the only way for me.

Not neccesarily true in ALL instances.
I met my husband while I was a waitress.
We were both in our early 40's, our children were grown, and independent of us, and so we married and I got on the truck with him.
We have been together now for nearly 4 years, maintain good, strong relationships with our families, and enjoy traveling the country together, and are extremely happy with each other, and our lifestyle.

Maybe, all it takes is a little maturity, and patience, to find that "one", who loves your "job", as much as you do? (oh, yeah, and YOU have to love your "job", too! LOL
