Repairs for major N.Y.-N.J. bridge now $24 million over budget

Repairs for major N.Y.-N.J. bridge now $24 million over budget

Quote:
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Repairs for New York's Tappan Zee Bridge are running $24 million over budget.

The New York State Thruway Authority says crews found deterioration in steel support structures that required extra work.

Replacement of the bridge's road deck started in 2007. The total price tag is now estimated at $171 million.

The repairs are considered a stopgap measure. It's expected that the bridge will be replaced entirely in the next decade.

The article has a typo. The Tappan Zee connects two parts of NY, not NY and NJ. The bridge which connects NY and NJ would be the GWB.
The Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge, almost always referred to as the Tappan Zee Bridge, or simply the Tappan Zee, is a cantilever bridge in New York over the Hudson River at one of its widest points, the [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. , connects Nyack in Rockland County with Tarrytown in Westchester County and is the only highway crossing of the Hudson south of the Interstate 84 bridge (Newburgh-Beacon Bridge) in the north parts of Newburgh, NY and north of the George Washington Bridge on Interstate 95 crossing the Hudson from the north side of Manhattan Island.
