North Carolina studying tolls for I-95

North Carolina studying tolls for I-95
Quote:
Transportation officials in North Carolina have hired consultants to study the feasibility of converting I-95 into a toll road.

Interstate 95, a heavily traveled truck route from Florida to Maine, has been the subject of tolls in the past, but the conversation got a bit more serious earlier this month when the North Carolina Department of Transportation hired two consulting firms, PBS&J and Baker Engineering, to conduct the feasibility study. The cost of the study is $6.4 million.

“What that’s going to do is evaluate the required capacity, the safety and the preservation requirements for the I-95 corridor from the South Carolina state line in the southern end to the Virginia state line in the northern end,” NCDOT Spokeswoman Dara Demi told Land Line on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Unbelievable!

Why dont we just give them what they want. Let's make every damn road a toll road! Apparently that is what they want. The gov't hasn't wasted enough of our money so let's give 'em some more. Almost makes me want to join a militia or something. cuz you know if we dont give it to them, they will just take it anyway.

What cracks me up is how many non-drivers are for this. They never stop to think how they are the ones who really end up paying for this.

Giving the government more money is about as productive as giving crack to a lizard.

I think every state that wishes to toll an Interstate highway, as if they own it, must first repay the billions of dollars the Federal government spent building and maintaining the road.

Or maybe I should just try renting out something that I don't own. It's only fraud if they catch you.

Tried in FL...

In the last couple of years the state of Florida tried to make I-4 btwn Tampa and Orlando a toll roll mainly because it is heavy with truck traffic. It went down in flames. "Axe the tax" was the battlecry.
What every pol seems to forget is that the interstate system was created to enhance the movement of goods from state to state. So, it seems that if anyone should pay tolls on interstates it should be every vehicle except the trucks!

Budget short fall!
I don't think it will pass. North Carolina has been talking about it for the last 25 years and it always causes a big stink and they sweep it under the rug. They tried to do this with Interstate 40 between Wilmington and Winston-Salem about 10 years ago and it died a quick death in the N.C. House.
