Guys...don't panic.

This will force companies to put APU's on their trucks, that is the sole purpose of this law...its a win for us. (but it will take a little while to seem that way)

lol, yeah right. When they make it a law that every truck has to have an apu, then they'll put them on. The ones that don't close up shop will anyway.

That would require passing a federal law...its much easier this way. States can pass laws quicker (and usually much more effectively) than the feds.

When people refuse to work for the bottom feeder companies that won't install APU's...the companies will take notice.

Say what you will...I'm right on this one.

Besides...I'm all for less idling myself, who wants to idle away that $20,000 engine. I know I sure wouldn't if it was mine.

If that were true, companies would have put APUs on trucks when NY decided to enforce anti-idling laws during the winter when it is possible for a driver to FREEZE TO DEATH! Face it, companies don't care about drivers. We are replaceable, and at a cheaper cost to the company as long as the CDL factories keep churning out more CDL holders than there are trucks for them to drive. I'm beginning to wonder if my not having a driving job these days might not be a bad thing. Maybe I'll go back to school. Not like I haven't become accustomed to rejection, anyway.

correct! company's are not going to shell out for apu's just because 3 states banned idling! i think we will see more and more new trucks comming from the factory with them. I think it would help speed things up if the tickets were issued to the company instead of the driver.

I agree...the companies should have to pay the tickets.

Also agree that 3 states wont get it done...but say, 15 states (its coming) and something will have to be done...whether its done by the companies or the truck manufacturers.

Some companies do care about their drivers...within reason anyway. But they still have to maintain their bottom line or they go out of business and we're out of a job.

People get so "wrapped around the axle" when it comes to idling...I just don't get it. Many would even idle if they had an APU...its a waste.

I know we have to be comfy to sleep and I idle when I have to. I've idled quite a bit lately (38%...but I'm still averaging 6.9-7 mpg), because its been hot and I've been down south a lot...states like Texas (California and NY had other reasons) know it has to stop....we just can't keep idling away the fuel...regardless of what the fuel costs...its still a waste. A waste of our valuable natural resources, a waste of the engine.

Every single revolution that engine turns puts it one step closer to the junkyard...every revolution. Its a simple yet effective cost savings to get the APU's and many companies are catching on.

Actually EPU's are whats getting all the attention now.

brsims,

About the "we are replaceable"...that may be true at a few companies. But there are also companies that will not hire inexperienced drivers (same as always), these companies WANT experience and nothing else...it saves them money on insurance and freight claims.

It boils down to this...and its simple.

The industry is changing, and companies can either adapt to it and change with it or get left behind....a lot of companies are getting left behind, they just haven't figured it out yet (TMC comes to mind as an example...but thats another story)

If OH,MI,IL,NY,IN etc hadn't flushed the populous toilets there would far less idiots in Texas.
The recent US imagrants from northern States have
put Texas in a 9 line bind.

This State "was once" a great State, not much difference tween it and Florida or California now.

Nobody is "from here" they all "moved here"
