Man awarded $13.8 million in distracted trucker pileup

ST. LOUIS — A federal magistrate judge has ruled that a truck driver and his company must pay $13.8 million to a man severely injured in a pileup that killed three people in suburban St. Louis last year.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the man’s wife also was awarded $4.2 million after the accident, in which a tractor-trailer smashed into several vehicles on Interstate 64 last July. Besides the three deaths, 18 people were injured.
