Alabama gets FMCSA grant to focus on accidents involving 4-wheelers, big rigs

Alabama gets FMCSA grant to focus on accidents involving 4-wheelers, big rigs

Quote:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama is getting a $645,000 federal grant to bolster highway patrols and educate drivers in a bid to reduce the number of traffic accidents involving commercial vehicles and private vehicles.

State Public Safety Director Chris Murphy said Wednesday the educational efforts will target drivers of private vehicles because 75 percent of the fatal accidents that involve or occur around commercial vehicles are the fault of people at the wheel of private vehicles.

Murphy and other officials announced the awarding of the competitive grant in front of the state Capitol. Positioned by them were two of six tractor-trailers provided by members of the Alabama Trucking Association that have been covered with full-color signs saying "Leave More Space for Trucks."
