TWIC enrollment shatters government’s expectations

TWIC enrollment shatters government’s expectations
Quote:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a new update on the TWIC program, showing that more people have enrolled than the government expected. TWIC cards are required for access to the nation’s ports.

The latest numbers show more than 1.3 million enrollments compared with past predictions of 800,000.

OOIDA regulatory affairs specialist Joe Rajkovacz says the greater-than-expected TWIC enrollment comes as no surprise.

“OOIDA told TSA before this program ever got off the ground that they were vastly underestimating the population of truck drivers and other workers who would be required to have TWIC,” Rajkovacz said. “As a result of a serious backlog in 2008, thousands of workers lost or were delayed work, and it created nightmares for many.”

I got my TWIC card for free when I was hauling gas last summer before my accident. The company I was with paid for it and it's good for 5 years. It comes in very handy because I went to a place with FFE and they asked if I had a TWIC card and I did so I was in and out with no escort. It also helped me when I applied for a new gas hauling gig a few weeks back. I was basically hired on the spot because I was set to go.

So I kinda like that drivers are pissy and refuse to get the back ground checks or get a TWIC card. More opportunities for me. Even as a company driver, it pays for itself in no time at all with better paying jobs.

Not being pissy.Isuppose it doesnt bother you that the beurocrats keep coming up with ways to separate you from your money all in the name of security.I dont see any real terrorist having much of a problem bypassing these measures. They steal id every day in this country, and they know it.I am glad for you that your cards are paying for themselves but I dont think I will pay for something I had for 29 years for the 5 dollars it cost me.yep just another tax

I've walked through my share of the real stuff, but that bureaucratic #### hits you out in the Land of La first. Thing is iit skips through the country, CA and then the northeast, then TX largely because of Houston being so smoggy.

Idling is way down around here, mostly because of fuel cost, but company drivers where it is allowed tend to keep on idling,; I idle less than anyone else in the small fleet I run for.

I forgot about WI, they want to be the CA of the midwest.
