Pennsylvania police push places 86 trucks out-of-service

Quote:
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania state police personnel and police officers from more than 15 municipal departments statewide conducted 1,886 commercial motor vehicle roadside inspections and placed 86 vehicles and 73 drivers out of service for violations during Operation SAFE (Seatbelt And Fatigue Enforcement) Driver on Sept. 9, Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski reported Wednesday.

“Officers focused their attention on seat belt use by truckers and on examinations of commercial driver’s licenses, vehicle inspection reports, hours of service logs and other required documentation,” Pawlowski said.

He said 665 citations, including 28 for drivers not wearing seat belts, were issued during the daylong operation.

Not sure if that is directed towards me. I hope not because I usually post trucking news daily to help members keep current of the trucking industry. I have never claimed to know everything and never will.

I just wonder what the statistics would be if they pulled over 1886 automobiles.

Two months ago Virginia wrote over 8000 tickets over the span of two days. They made 35 felony drug arrests and various other stuff too. And that was just on two stretches of interstate.

How about being written up for exhaust smoke on the right front trailer clearance light. It wasn't obscured, and light was clearly coming through it, but it wasn't as clean as the others. This was right behind the stack of a Maxidine engine that puffed smoke with every gear change. The light would have to be cleaned every day to not have smoke on it..

Also written up at the same time for "chaffing" on the light cord. It was the old style, non-coiled cord. It had rubbed the cat walk a few times during turns, and had a few marks on it. Not hurt at all.

I never gave them a hard time, was nice, took my violations without question, so additude was not a problem, and the truck was clean and well maintained. That was all they could find wrong.

When the DOT wants to write tickets and make money, they will find something. Very few, if any trucks, can pass a DOT check if someone looks hard enough, and knows what they are looking for. I can find a violation of some kind on most any truck I walk by.
