Congress puts off action on highway, air funding bills

WASHINGTON — The Democratic-led Congress’ determination to do something about health care this year has slowed legislation affecting the safety of almost every traveler in America.

Barring some miracle, lawmakers acknowledge they don’t have the time or the political capital to act on new bills bringing major improvements and more money to those overworked, underfunded infrastructure systems. The House is expected on Wednesday to simply extend existing surface and air transportation programs through the end of the year.

The reauthorization of surface transportation and Federal Aviation Administration programs faces roadblocks even without the time-consuming dominance of the health care debate. But both transportation priorities have been directly affected by the health care battle.

Let's see..they have put off this decision, the decision over the Mexican truckers, what else? When will all this insanity end???

When the country lays broken and gasping for it's last breath and they then attempt to rewrite the constitution and implement a socialistic government.

And THEN hopefully the people will finally rise.

I mean, come on, our health care system isn't perfect, but it has been working for a long time....and to push all else aside, things that are of utmost importance due to safety issues, and jobs, etc. to re-write health care that NO ONE WANTS, is beyond criminal, IMHO.

They're more concerned about getting in their 3 week vacations after 4 days of work. But I do have a problem with the highway bill... it's half a trillion dollars. Where is the money coming from? Or will this mean a tax increase for sure? As if we're not gonna get hit with one anyway. God forbid if they do pass the health care bill in it's present form. We'll be paying for this "free" health care out our rears...
