The bears are hungry in oregon. They had to lay off a bunch of teachers and state workers. The bad part is they will probably catch some methhead and will be all over the papers like they did last time.

anyone get inspected? how do they check for fatigue, drug and alcohol use ? how would they prove your tired? are you tired just because they say so? and do you have to pee in a cup at the side of the road? are they searching thru trucks just cause they want to? where's our rights?

The last part shown here about Ontario Oregon is a bit wrong, there is no port of entry at Ontario Oregon, its 30 miles west of Ontario at Farewell Bend, there is a port on each side of the highway, but most of the time the eastbound is closed until the state of Oregon needs more money.

They probably call Minnesota and are told well if the driver has a laptop, a tv, or a cell phone then he MUST be fatigued.

I went thru on tuesday morning and got a level 2 inspection. The thing was that I had got caught up in the two hour closure of I5 by Woodburn on friday, (there had been a massive motorcycle accident involving 24 bikers) which ran me 45 mins over my 14 hrs by time I shut down for the night. I had logged what happened and noted it in the remarks of the log.

The OSP trooper took my log book, medical card and drivers license and disappeared off into the scale house. While I was waiting another trooper had me step out of the truck and asked me how much I had to drink today. Told him about one pot of coffee. He then asked if I had any drugs with me. Told him no prescription medication, and started listing the OTC stuff. He cut me off, saying he wasn't interested in the usual OTC stuff. Wished me a safe drive and wandered off to the next truck.

The first trooper came back about 25 mins after he had left, a lot longer than I thought it was going to take. He had a few questions, did I have a co driver, was the truck driven by someone else, why did the truck have a crossing report for sunday? Told him no, no, truck was parked all weekend. He checked the unit number against the report and found that the report had a different unit number, so I was good to go after I signed the pass inspection sheet.

After I got the passed inspection sheet in my hands I asked him about the 14hr violation. He said that as long as every thing else was passed, and that I was not currently in violation, and it didn't appear that I was hiding hours, they weren't interested in what happened last week. They knew that "Things Happen" and they weren't trying to make a difficult job impossible. On the other hand, had he found anything major wrong, the 14 hr would have been added to the list.

You can generally tell when Oregon is going to have a major safety check push. The south bound scale at Ashland, the north bound scale at (Myrtle Creek?) and the north bound scale at Woodburn will be open the week before. That way they get crossing reports to check for speeding and times.
