Oldest motor carrier succumbs to economy

In Pennsylvania, a family-owned trucking company that calls itself “the nation’s oldest carrier” is going out of business.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports that Frame’s Motor Freight, headquartered outside Philadelphia in West Chester, will let 81 employees go. About half of those are drivers.

Frame’s was founded in 1870, back in the days of horse-drawn wagons.
Owner Bud Temple says the company was doing well in 2007, but that the recession, high insurance and fuel costs, and a scarcity of freight all combined to force the shutdown.
