Nevada Troopers In Trucks Spot Dangerous Drivers

Nevada Troopers In Trucks Spot Dangerous Drivers

Quote:
Associated Press - September 30, 2009 12:55 PM ET
RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol has begun putting troopers in big-rig trucks to spot motorists who follow too closely or cut in front of tractor-trailers.
NHP Capt. Julie Johnson says the statewide "Badge on Board" program aims to improve safety and cut the number of truck crashes.
It follows a 1-day pilot program in 2008 that involved troopers issuing 18 citations in northern Nevada and 65 citations in southern Nevada.
Officials say troopers in the cabs of trucks will summon officers in marked patrol vehicles to stop and issue citations to motorists.

This had been going on other places for a while now. I know Indiana is doing it and can't remember where else.

It's kind of a good idea if you ask me. It could promote a better understanding between drivers and L.E.O.'s. Of course we'll just have to hope that the truck that the L.E.O. rides in isn't one of the ones that you can smell from 50 yards away when the driver opens the door.

I think it's a good idea too. Just like the T.A.C.T ( Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks ) program that they have started. I know I have seen several 4 wheelers getting nailed in the last couple weeks for cutting off big trucks in Kentucky on 65.

They are doing the same thing with trains here in TX. Catching drivers going around gates in front of on coming trains. Have hidden cars. Officer makes radio call and they issue ticket. Have even caught a few truck drivers doing it too.

Washington State Troopers ride with truckers too.... they have even commented on how shocked they are how on the four wheelers act around trucks. I think this is a good idea and would like to see other states do it, but you'll never see California do it. They consider trucks the enemy.

I think it would be fun to give a Trooper a ride. They would be scared to death riding in the Jump seat through Construction zones like Dayton, OH and Chicago, Ill.
Then Dare them to put there fingers on the outside of the Mirror as the Trucks pass on the Right.

What I think would be a really good idea, is to put a Trooper, who seem to dislike truckers, in a rig for a couple of days...get to know the dangers that 4-wheelers cause a driver every day, and maybe get to know the drivers a bit better, and not have such an attitude towards them.
