Troopers Are Watching ... From Semi-Trucks

Quote:
LAS VEGAS -- State troopers are cracking down on aggressive car and truck drivers as part of the new Badge On Board program aimed at cutting down on crashes involving semi-trucks.

Troopers said when drivers are tempted to squeeze in front of a semi-truck, they should think twice. There could be a state trooper in that truck ready to give drivers tickets.

The way it works is troopers are riding along in the cab of a semi-truck, and when another driver pulls an illegal maneuver -- such as following too closely, cutting the semi off or not using a turn signal -- they radio another trooper to stop the car and give them a ticket.

“That’s him right there. That guy should know better,” said Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. James Olschlager.

State troopers are on the lookout for unsafe driving on the highways.

“Stay out of a semi-truck’s blind spot. Know the no zones. Never follow a semi-truck too closely. Use caution when passing a semi-truck. Stay a safe distance in front of the semi-trucks. Never cut them off,” said NHP Trooper Alan Davidson.

or not using a turn signal
Imagine that...fining a 4 wheeler for failing to use a turn signal.

It's amazing how important that becomes when the Government starts to run short of money. Otherwise, it's only an issue if a big truck fails to signal.

I cannot complain.
I really like these programs. Partly for the education that the LEO's get being in the trucks. Many of them are with short haul drivers and not OTR trucks, but anything helps.
They will target unsafe truck lane changes as well as trucks following too close on these also, which is needed.
Way too many trucks lineing up too close when passing. Then if something does happen the lead truck is usually gone, but there is a pile up around truck 3+. Since as a chain reaction all loose some distance with reaction times, and if they are all too close by the 3rd truck it is all over. Accident time with no way out.
Defensive driving is a job. Not an option.
If the states get more money in tickets doing this then I can live with that too.
4 wheelers need to get it in there heads that most of the heavy truck accidents occur due to there actions and not ours.
