Charges Filed in 2008 Truck Driver Murder

I drove by this rest area twice a day, and I still remember the day it happened. Three of my very best friends are drivers, and that day it really hit me hard, realizing just how vulnerable they are. Seeing that truck sitting there, completely alone, nothing else in the parking lot; I don't know how I knew, just a feeling, but I knew the driver had been killed. The truck sat there for two days while they investigated.

The state of Missouri does not install cameras in their rest areas, as it is too expensive.

Well, I for one am glad that they caught them. Hubby stayed there just the night before this happened. Its scary what can happen in the blink of an eye.

You know, for as nice of a county as that is, part country living, part upper class, there's a lot of shady stuff going on. I still remember when a young woman's car broke down along 29 and she vanished from the side of the road along there.

It's scary to think about. When I told my friends about it, they told me how unsafe truck stops can be. I always thought of them as a safe haven. There really do need to be more places that are safe for drivers to stop. I still think about that day every time I drive to and from Kansas City.

Krystal Kipper. Her body has still never been found. There is still a memorial that is kept there along the highway. That was just north of Platte City, at the Weston/Tracy exit. It just shows that no matter how nice an area is, bad things can still happen.
