Truckers may get cold shoulder-San Joaquin County Quote: Truckers using shoulders of San Joaquin County roads for long-term parking would have to find somewhere else to store their rigs under a proposed ordinance to limit the amount of time tractor-trailers can park on unincorporated thoroughfares. The rules would likely affect short-haul drivers who own their trucks and park on county roads when not working. The push to draft a new ordinance stems from complaints of oil stains and garbage left on the roadside parking spots, and concern that the towering trucks cause safety problems, including blocking motorists' view of other traffic and damaging road shoulders, county officials said. The ordinance wouldn't make shoulders completely off-limits to truckers; they could still pull off the side of the road for a number of reasons, including when a truck breaks down or when a driver needs to stop to sleep.
