Pilot truck stop employee confesses to arsons

Pilot truck stop employee confesses to arsons, Dallas Fire-Rescue says

01:21 PM CDT on Wednesday, October 14, 2009

By COURTNEY ROBERTS / The Dallas Morning News
Quote:
A 25-year-old employee has confessed to setting a string of fires at a Pilot truck stop near Lancaster, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said today.
Thomas Allen Carr, who worked overnight shifts cleaning the truck stop, faces two counts of second-degree felony arson, officials said. He is suspected of setting 10 fires between Sept. 27 and Oct. 8 at the truck stop at 8787 S. Lancaster Road.

A person answering the phone at the truck stop declined to comment and referred questions to the Pilot corporate office.
Carr confessed after he was seen trying to start a fire at on Oct. 9, said Dallas Fire-Rescue Capt. Sam Stephenson.
Investigators became suspicious when they interviewed Carr after an Oct. 8 incident and realized that some of his stories did not add up.
“He was interviewed that night, and it was the first time his name was ever mentioned,” Stephenson said. “We looked at his timecard, and all the fires had occurred on the nights that he was working.”
Stephenson said the items set on fire included wood, plywood, a tarpaulin and cargo on a flatbed trailer. And when a fire was reported, Stephenson said, Carr would alert everyone and grab a fire extinguisher to put it out.
“He kind of wanted to be a hero by discovering the fire, putting the fire out and knocking on the doors to try and rescue people,” Stephenson said.

Now if he had set fire to most of the neighborhood around there they might have given him a medal or put him on DLS City Council. But setting flats on fire-guy needs to go away for a long time.
