NC truckers plugging in to save energy

KENLY, N.C. -- A truck stop on Interstate 95 has joined a handful of locations in North Carolina offering truckers the energy-saving option of plugging in their trucks instead of running their engines overnight.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Big Boys Truck Stop 35 miles east of Raleigh is the third truck stop in the state offering outlets for truckers who usually leave engines on overnight at a cost of a gallon of diesel per hour.

The 24 outlets installed for $180,000 will charge truckers $1 per hour. The project is largely funded by the state Transportation Department.
