New Oklahoma left-lane law in effect Nov. 1

New Oklahoma left-lane law in effect Nov. 1
Quote:
Intended to increase safety on Oklahoma highways, a new rule that takes effect Sunday, Nov. 1, allows law enforcement officers to crack down on slowpokes who clog traffic by driving in the left lanes of multilane roadways.

The action in the Sooner State was welcome news to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. The Association says it is common sense to have rules in place that requires slower vehicles yield to traffic moving at the speed limit.

At least 20 states have similar left-lane restriction rules, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Oklahoma state Sen. Kenneth Corn said the rule adds some teeth to Oklahoma law and allows the Highway Patrol to issue tickets to drivers who spend too much time in the passing lanes. Corn, D-Poteau, said that the patrol now cannot issue tickets solely for driving slowly in the passing lane.

Means absolutely nothing when there's not a cop in sight for miles and miles. That's usually the way it is. I honestly don't understand how I can drive an entire day, all day, and not see a single cop anywhere. Where are they and why are they not doing their jobs?

Same here in Louisiana, don't do a lick of good. I don't even see them
ticketing people for it, even when a trooper is around and a vehicle is
obviously just hanging out there in that left lane, better yet a whole
line of em with the right lane WIDE OPEN.....:biggrin_25 510:

Yeah, I wonder that, too. Is it just that the counties/cities/states can't afford it?

What with not enforcing the traffic laws they've already got on the books (even basic laws like obeying the speed limit, using turn signals, etc.), it seems ridiculous to keep passing more laws they won't bother to enforce. And meanwhile, it keeps getting crazier and crazier out here.

they're buying (or selling) drugs and arresting drug buyers/sellers. they're also posing as prostitutes (or "johns,") and arresting people who want to buy or sell sex. or they're busy arresting people for other victimless crimes.

Ah yes. Somewhere there's a high school jr who's got a picture of herself topless on her cell phone and by god, she needs to be tracked down and punished to the fullest extent of THE LAW.
