New generation FAST cards required by Dec. 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- First generation FAST cards will no longer be accepted at the border as of Dec. 1, US Customs and Border Protection is warning.

The agency has been issuing new FAST cards since Mar. 16, 2009. The new cards have enhanced security features that allow Canadian cross-border drivers to comply with Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative document requirements.

Members must activate their new FAST card within 30 days of receiving it
