Trucker beaten in liquor load heist

Trucker beaten in liquor load heist

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A carefully planned heist has left a truck driver rubbing his bruised head while police officers search for two robbers. The driver was pulling a 53-foot trailer loaded with about 1,250 cases of liquor to National Wine and Spirits, an alcohol distributor.

The National Wine and Spirits Indianapolis facility is located at 700 West Morris Street. The company's Web site boasts it's the largest distributor of wine and spirits in Indiana and Michigan.

Some advice for newbies who get stuck hauling high-dollar loads like cigarettes, liquor, copper, etc:

1. The first mistake this guy made, was going to sleep in the middle of the night in a crime-ridden city like Indy, with a freakin' load of liquor in the trailer. If at all possible, take the load from dock to dock without stopping. And when that isn't possible, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to sleep at the destination, especially if it's a big city. Local thugs know what you have on the trailer.

2. If you do stop to sleep, make sure you pick a place well away from crime-infested cities and at least a hundred miles from your destination. Make sure it's busy enough though so that anyone attempting to hijack your load will be seen. Leave your truck running and ready to go in case you might need to make a little noise (air horn) or make a hasty exit.

Stop early enough so that you can get front row parking in view of the building and/or fuel islands.

3. Do not "answer" your door for anyone. If someone knocks on your door, stay in your sleeper behind the curtains. Make them break the window if they want in, and if they do, put a few bumps in their head with that inch-and-a-half lug wrench you keep beside your bed. Make it steel... make it heavy... and make it bust a hole in their freakin' skull.

4. Call ahead to your destination to confirm delivery appointments and dock layout. Make sure you are on time, EXACTLY. Most places that receive high-dollar loads will have a gated facility and may or may not have room for you to park if you show up too early. You don't want to be turned away to wait outside the gate.

"He got up, answered it. He said, basically, he was attacked by two black males. Basically, they beat him until he was unconscious," said Sgt. Matt Mount of IMPD.

The FBI has covered this in a story a few years ago in one of the Truckers Rags. A lot of these liquor loads are even watched from the distillery or liquor warehouses. It's not hard to get the trucks information and to even follow a truck. Truckers "talk" too much when they shouldn't.
The FBI's advice is to NEVER talk about your load or where it's going. PERIOD. If it's high dollar don't even say where you're going! You're not going to hurt a drivers feelings if you tell him you don't talk about your load. IF it's a driver and not someone setting you up! It's no ones business and you risk your life even if you think the load is a cheap POS load. EVERYTHING has a market value for a thief! He didn't pay a penny for it so whatever he gets out of it is pure profit including everything in the truck down to your dirty clothes!
I pull a reefer and most of what goes into one isn't cheap freight but the ONE thing I never do is answer the question "what ya hauling" cause I'll tell you real quick but nicely "nunya!"

There used to be a sayig in the navy that applies to drivers of high dollar freight "loose lips sink ships"
