Jackson truckers charged in mill fraud

Four Jackson County truck drivers face federal wire fraud charges in connection to a multimillion-dollar kickback scheme that allegedly cheated a Rome cardboard mill out of $4.8 million.

Roger Carthern and Andrew Carthern, both of Jefferson; J. David Carthern of Commerce; and Frank Ferguson Jr. of Maysville, appeared Monday in U.S. District Court in Rome to hear the charges against them. All of them pleaded not guilty at the initial appearance.

Each is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud for his role in allegedly helping a scale operator steal from the mill.
