Michigan to Deploy PrePass System

Michigan to Deploy PrePass System
Quote:
The state of Michigan will deploy PrePass weigh station technology at its northbound Monroe facility on Interstate 75 near the Ohio border and at the eastbound New Buffalo port of entry on I-94 near the Indiana border.

PrePass technology allows qualified carriers to comply electronically with state-established weight, safety and credential requirements and bypass these facilities at highway speed using an in-cab transponder.

In addition, PrePass can reduce the environmental effects of emissions by eliminating weigh station stops and idling in queues.

"With PrePass, Michigan inspectors will be able to focus on those trucks most likely to be deficient in their compliance with credential, weight and safety regulations," said Capt. Robert Powers, commander of the Michigan State Police Traffic Safety Division.
