| Very sad, and I do agree with you. I thought at first that it was an old posting but I had to read the date.

| I will say it again, this is why we need reciprocity for firearm carry permits. Everyone who is outraged by this senseless killing should be on the phone to their congressmen and senators pushing for reciprocity. It is your right to defend yourself, stand up for it! My heart goes out to the family and friends of this driver. |

| Just so ya know, Everett... unless something's changed without me knowing, there's no federal restriction on carrying firearms in your truck. I'd say it would be illegal for them to restrict carry, but the law doesn't mean much to those jerks, unless it's one they created and favor. Most of what they do nowadays is unconstitutional anyway. As for gun laws, they're usually state-by-state, and you just have to be careful not to run afoul of any given state's laws when traveling through. The gun-owners' "rights" law passed a couple decades ago was more a Trojan Horse to create more restrictions while passing a couple really minor pro-carry lines to get folks on board. National reciprocity would be the best compromise solution for now, and would at least allow us limited access to the tools we can use to defend ourselves. As the government gleefully treats us like fourth-class citizens, I don't think they'll push too hard on our behalf. |

| while all the states are looking for ways to cut back spending, drivers are being forced to park in places that are just not safe. i dont understand why these states want to close most rest areas, why cant they just leave the paking areas open for the trucks, or any tired driver for that matter like some of the nortwestern states? they have just parking areas, thats it. we ( truck drivers ) are being forced off the highways into neighborhoods to find places to park such as run down shopping centers and empty lots, some states even ban overnight parking at weigh stations.... everyone is talking about how " unsafe truckers are " i dont see many states doing anything to make it safe out there, except for utah going along I80 the signs say use shoulder if your to tired! why should we worry about the government " pushing for our behalf "? why is it i only read and hear on the radio that OOIDA are the only ones pushing the matter about safe parking? how come us, drivers of all kinds are not pushing for ourselfs? how far does the posting on here go? are the people we need to hear us reading this? im thinking not so much... Dan Rather did a good job balsting our industry.. maybe he will blast the states for what they are doing to make the highways more unsafe by restricting parking.... Va for example, they said we should plan to drive throu the state, or make arrangemtns to get a hotel room for the night or plan to park early... right, cause shippers and recievers love working around va dot time frame for parking... my 09 and my new 10 atlas still shows most of the rest areas on the map, so when i plan where im going to park, sometimes at rest areas i refer to my map to pick a place to park just find out when i get there its closed... then im in violation of hos and risk a ticket or even worse...jail time ![]() i wonder just how many drivers have to be murdered before the state start to realize this is serious...and something needs to be done.

| Allow me to chime in. Fact: there is no federal law that prohibits a driver from carrying a firearm in his commercial vehicle. That has been left up to each individual state so it's different from state to state. The NRA has much information regarding that and I suggest those who plan to carry should do their homework for each state they plan to travel in. If all 48, that will take some time. There are a few states that will throw you in the hooscow if you are found to be in possession without a permit. AND the permit must be from that state because they don't share reciprocity from other states. Be careful. Better to know before you go.

| That's great. Now you get to break down mileage pay by the hours worked minus the cost of your own life. I'm coming up with negative numbers here.

| Why is it that everyone else is able to protect thier self with a firearm. In a car, bus, rv's, home's, shop owner's, atm guy's, nite watchman, someone just walking down the street. But a trucker, Who live's in his truck, working to feed his famly, pay for thier home, car repairs, His kids doctors bills. Is not able to protect himself. While he in is home away from home. But when or If a driver has his load stolen its his fault and goes on his dac report. If someone rob you or your truck. The trucking company is not going to replace anythang. Because its the drivers fault. But as a driver, you are not able to stop them. Company policy states you can't. The only thang a driver can do is put a lock on the door to slow them down. A lock only keeps a honest man honest. If your luck to live threw it, You can tell the cops and trucking company you did all you could to stop them. Right!! Just sounds like rights to bare arms is just some words on paper. My prayers go out to him and his family. Trucking can be a lonly place to work. No one to talk to on a personal level. To be stuck in a cab smaller then a jail cell. Fighting with the company to stay warm or cool. All alone or with person you don't know. Trying to sleep hope your co driver does't go crazy on you. This job is tuff enough with someone going around kill. Enough!!! |
