Nevada DOT needs help catching copper thieves

Nevada DOT needs help catching copper thieves
Quote:
In Nevada, the state DOT is appealing to drivers – truckers included – to help them catch crooks that are literally turning off the lights on some interstate highways.

DOT spokesman Scott Magruder told Land Line Now that the thieves are after the copper wiring in the big light poles. The thefts have repeatedly resulted in incidents that darkened stretches of Interstate 80 and U.S. 395 in the Reno area.

Magruder says the replacement wiring that’s used has features that prevent easy removal, but that Nevada may have to resort to putting locks on the light pole access boxes to stop the rash of thefts.

It's an "Inside Job"......
Most cable thieves wouldn't know how to rip-off cable while it's still hot.....

Street lights are either 220V or 440V......
I can tell the difference between the two conductors but why help out potential thieves.....

The cops should check with all electrical contractors and then hit the salvage yards...especially big payouts..........

I knew a guy who cashed in $11K worth of cable at a salvage yard...lucky he didn't get jailed....
He got fired and that was it........
