Early in my career (back in the 70's), I use to stop at the Baker Truck Corral in Baker City. It's still there.

Baker City is still there, but the sign looks pretty tired these days, only about half the lights on that truck work : )

How come I don't see any drivers wearing shorts and flip flops in the photos?

    Right on, Gilli's

Still open up in NewLiskard Ontario.

Some other good shots there, I'm younger than many of those photos but can appreciate them and get an idea how things have changed. Kind of makes me think about Toby Keiths song "White Rose" They were found in Canada only but same thing took place all over.
"And then they built that overpass
And now they stay out on the highway"

Anyways sorry to go rather off topic. Keep pics comming!!

Edit, TinyTim, you beat me to it about Gilli's :) Took me too long to type.

When there was a pump attendant.

When you could trust the attendant to pump your fuel, wash your windows and lights, check your oil and tires.

When you actually could, were even expected to, leave your truck at the pumps and go in and eat and everything would be done and the truck parked.

There's something to be said for "simpler times."

    Another good thread, John

I worked at the Bar B Union 76 Truck Stop on the west side of Denver in 1987 and 1988 out of high school. We did full service, from pumping the fuel, checking the oil, thumping the tires and washing the windows and tail lights. We did this while the drivers went inside and when their truck was finished they were right back out to move it after paying. I made $4.00 an hour and loved it. I wished I just had a camera back then.

a few more that I have found.

The Rainbow Diner - Charlestown, WV

Some old advertisements. Remember the ones in the old trucking magazines, back when the truck stops wanted and appreciated your business.

    Johnson's Corner - Loveland, CO

One of my favorite truck stops and still in operation today. They did a complete remodel a few years back but I remember the old truck stop with the little juke boxes at the tables and counters. Always good food.

A few more of the old one's.
