Maybe not a newbie, but the way they run the company.

You ever thought that they WANT or demand the truck be driven the full amount of hours possible?

Well you know they'll be wanting or demanding it from somebody else , not you or me . All our drivers stop when and where they want to and we have a lot of good paying contracts because of giving good service .
Drivers aren't motivated by demands and customers deal with driver attitudes every day .

I had dispatcher like that once. I told him to get out there and drive the truck. He told me he was in Omaha (oops) and couldn't, since I was in NJ. I told him "I guess I get to decide when to run then, huh?" Never had a problem with him after that. I run when I can, and stop when I need to. End of story.

Yeah , I heard about them . I think one of our drivers used to work there . He'll spend the night at the customer's gate when there is a truck stop 15-20 minutes away .

That company would lock up and not let drivers use the restroom or shower after 5. They had locked doors to prevent the driver from seeing the dispatchers.

Most of the drivers just would go and park at the Pilot.

As of 2010 covenant doesn't have a school. As I have asked and was there not to long a go.

But do hire from cdl mills. And they do hire rehire and exp drives who can pass a backing course and a road test.

The range looks like it used to be a school with class rooms and all. But no school. I was going to get my lady to go. sorry.

I have to read alot more about the csa 2010. But I do feel like a bulls eye on a target. But as for as the trucks. If it broke, the companies has to fix it. Right? Which means better trucks on the road. Not so good for the O/O.

I could be wrong about this. Like I said got to read more to understand it.

owner operators already are responsible for their own maintenance, so nothing changes there. the company i'm leased to will lose 10% of their current o/o's and know it. the company has spent a great deal of time doing training and trying to help owners understand how we are going to deal with this and survive. personally, i'm in the "good" catagory, and not too worried. as an o/o/ i have the option to say "no" and often do.

smaller companies who are on the edge will probably perish with this gift to union and mexican carriers, and i can see only a few making more money from this. many drivers, like bullhaulers, logging, and agriculture who are traditionally independant in nature and not what the bigger companies deal with may also be in trouble.

all this talk of a strike is pure inmature bull$hit. somebody has to lead the thing and there isn't anyone out there to do it. just clean out yer truck and go home. i do see an increase in traffic for greyhound/ trailways as more used to be drivers look for a way to the house.

I've read a fair amount on CSA 2010 but I'm not exactly sure who FMCSA (or DOT) is after or who is being targeted. Any ideas?
