things are more expensive on the east coast because property values are sky high. Buying a store in NY or MD will cost you 3 times as much as buying a store in the south, of west. There is just no land back east, it all costs way too much.
That is why prices are higher back east. Out in the middle of nowhere, stuff is just cheaper.
