And what precisely did they "get" in Europa?

Lower fuel. Nope they still pay more than us.

Better pay. Well go drive there if the pay is so much better.

More respect? No way to judge.

But I will join in on the strike starting tomorrow about 11 when I empty out and go home until about 11 am Sun when I leave for NJ.

No I will not break my agreements to drive juwt because a bunch of simpering ne'er do well's can not say no on their own. If you do not like your #### job park your truck and do something else. The minute you stop I guarantee you one of two things will happen. Either everyone will be shocked into giving you everything you desire, or more likely you will be quickly replaced and no one will care.

    Be prepared for either eventuality.

You could not be more wrong. Every year about this time... here we go... first you hear some lunatic on the radio... lets shut em down... Then you start seeing the posts... shut em down.... Who has the right to shut them down? All the lunatics want all drivers to shut down. Who owns those trucks? If it is your money on the line then shut em down. If it is not your truck note then if ain't working for you try something else. Why is it that the O/O's that I know don't talk smack about shutting them down? Even when fuel is high they are smart enough to make money and make it happen.

If you had a union company xyz and they voted to shut down. I agree shut them down. Across the boards all companies? Really? No two lets shut em down leaders can explain why. Fuel, freight rates? Who is the spokesperson? The teamsters that you are talking about. What happened to them? I know a driver for a union 20 plus years same company. Did not know from day to day if he would have a job. Lost track of him, but last I knew he was looking elsewhere. Look at GM. Anderson IN World HQ for GM They went on strike all the time. Look at all the empty factories there now. GM is gone. With the big paychecks.

The little factories now are paying 8-9 bucks an hour. What happened to the 20 bucks an hour jobs. Where did they go? Try mexico. Keep it up with your shut em down and the mexicans will be pulling freight here for 10 cents a mile....

What "big" trucking strike of the Seventies" ? I drove back then and all I recall was a few guys making threats in the Midwest. There was no huge shut down, just empty threats. I drove for the original Roadway back then and while the IBT had some job actions, that "nationwide" shut down in the seventies accomplished absolutely nothing except to scare some newbies with "sniper" threats...We had a MUCH better strike in 1997 at UPS..That actually accomplished something..More empty talk. You people will never strike or do anything except what your told to do...Got to keep that cheap freight rolling..NAFTA drivers are already here in So Cal. They will be in your state soon and again, no-one will do a #### thing. Unemployment is fine, as long as it happens to that invisible "other guy". You may be that "other guy" before you know it.

Well i don't know what was going on on your side of the country, but in the midwest the Teamsters were on strike. I was working as a Special Commodities Operator for Branch Motor Express,NY,NY. I owned my own truck and trailer, and was an employee, not an independent contractor. There was no threat,it was real, all the Teamsters and a lot of Independents went on strike. As far as the sniper threat, there were several instances of trucks getting shoot up and a couple drivers did get wounded. When all was said and done we got improved benefits, work rules, more contributions to the pension fund. In my opinion we did fine. P.S. Branch was a Teamster Co., i was a Teamster prior to working for Branch and still am. I started with Time-DC. The Fraternal Asso. of Steel Haulers (FASH) did not honor the Teamsters Strike. So when FASH went on strike i kept on running and had the bullet holes in the cab to prove the sniper thing was no joke. That is a fact!

I have been working with David Webb at Teapartytrucker to get national publicity for a one hour demonstration on May 23rd. The idea is for us all to pull off the road on to the shoulder, safely for an hour 1:00pm to 2:00pm EDT. He is working with other radio and tv people to get us the publicity we need to really get some attention. Will you please join me in sending a message to Washington, that we can get together, and we are fed up with the high cost of fuel, and over regulation of trucking.

The reason for only a one hour demonstration, is so that everyone can participate without losing their jobs or their truck. With national media attention, it will be enough. Also it will show us that we CAN get together on a small thing. Then if needed, maybe we can get together on a bigger thing. Won't you join in!

Don't buy fuel if you do not like the price.

Your elected officials mandated the regulation (a good portion of which are needed) of how we conduct a business on a public road.

Don't need any political hacks representing me( the reason i left OOIDA is the career politicians they are hiring to keep in DC.

I get all the attention I require. If you need a hug go find your mommy:biggrin_25522:

No I won't shut down I just hope the myrmidon that do do so in a PARKING SPACE so they do not cause a rash of side swipes by parking along the road. The attention you get from that may involve some penalties. Have no fear if you get 50 trucks to actually do it nationwide your hack will tout "The Great Shut Down of 2011":biggrin_25517: just like the fanciful fairy tales being told on here about the other great shut downs:biggrin_25526:

Just do it. Let's keep it simple - start striking - rinse and repeat as necessary.
Baby steps, 1 hour strike becomes a 1 week STRIKE.
I have all the time in the world!
