Yes i know we have heard it before and over and over again but there is serious talk about shutting down due to high fuel, hos, elogs and other BS that has been thrown at drivers. Here are just a few ideas that could make it become a reality along with a few other things my trucking friends have told me.
Hos- this has become the Trucking Joke of the Industry. No one in Washington can come up with a True Honest Fix to this so called Problem that was never a problem to begin with.
Csa- Honest Truckers true NITEMARE. Will this really weed out the BAD or will it Destroy the Honest Hard Working Trucker.
Elogs- a Government Joke shoved down drivers throats. Comeon if a driver cant figure out how to do a log book and needs a freaking machine to tell them and the crap company when to and not to drive is more government BS. How much are these companies getting paid by the US of Russia to put these dictator computers in the trucks.
Insurance companys dictate to trucking companies who to and who not to hire. More BS
Fleese purchase or just Fleese. This pratice should be OUTLAWED and BANNED from trucking all together. This is nothing more than a way for some crooked companys to make money off a driver with broken promises. These soooo called Fleese deals do nothing more that favor the company while the driver trys to make ends meet and feed his family and pay his bills.
Fuel Prices lead to Higher Cost for even the truckers Familys. Its bad enough the industry pay is still in the crapper even after so many years with the same low pay for drivers both new and vets. Enough already time to treat drivers like humans not like an old toy that you just throw in a dumpster. Drivers are real people.
Over Priced items at truck stops. better known as price gouging. Another messed up pratice that has been getting away for years and now maybe its time to stop.
Rest areas that are now saying no overnite truck parking or limitied hours. Another kick to a tired truck driver. Lets let a tired truck driver out on the road to kill some people then maybe the states brain trusts will realize that maybe we should let the truckers sleep.
Idle policys.- Cali is good for this big joke. Lets see hmmmm Hot truck inside means driver not resting fullest oh wait the C.A.R.B cop just got out of an Air Conditioned CAR..
No Left Lane.- Another no BRAINER here. Lets see multiple on and off ramps tons of traffic trying to get on and off what makes more sense..Thank You
Lumpers who overcharge and the company that they work for does nothing. This pratices has been going on for years and even though it does give a driver a rest the cost they charge can hurt an O/O. Its your freight take it and be happy its there.
Detention Time- Now we all know companys start charging from the start and stick it to drivers saying it starts after so many hours of delay.
These were just a few that were talked about at the truck stop in Vegas 3 nites ago. Now for the strike side this is what i think if it ever happens will be the reason
HOS
ELOGS
CSA
FUEL PRICES
GOVERNMENT TREATMENT OF DRIVERS
FAIR WAGES FOR ALL DRIVERS WITH REMOVAL OF SLIDING SCALE
If it Happens ill be right there with them. Its time we took back our INDUSTRY. We need to show solidarity and if it does happen we need to all take a stand and not cross our brothers and sisters. It seems the only way anyone will listen to US because these BIG Driver Mill Companys and the ATA( Anti Trucker Association) Are in bed with the Government and only look out for themselves. They are trying to take our GUNS dont let them TAKE OUR TRUCKS..
Could a strike be looming

the closest truck driver shut down was about 1975 give or take a few years. a guy by the name of parkhurst was heading it up then. that was the closest the drivers ever came to a total shut down. if i remember nixon was going to call out the national guard to move freight. the issues stated above have always been in trucking and will still be there for the next generation of drivers. you will never get all the drivers to shut down let alone have them all agree on something.

Here is a link to the story regarding Mike Parkhurst.

Hey-I'm in a one person union. My own.Strike vote won't ever happen while i run my union.Have fun with whatever you do.The first thing you should do is get two truckers to agree on the price of a free cup of coffee(stolen from TTR-i use it a lot).Second get the people making the rules to understand how they affect the ones living their rules. Then maybe some kind of progress can be made.Take care.Brian

i say we dont let them take our crap period. I may not have that much experience but i have been around this industry for a long time. I would be right there with everybody else. Now i know that there will be some ppl who will read to see how much experience i have and say i have no right posting and complaining about this subject but i say i have every right. I'm a driver just like them and i have a lot of friends who have been in this industry for a long time. I've heard the stories I've seen the crap happen and if i could use stronger language on here i sooooo would. I believe it is bs how we get treated and how we are percieved as idiots (although there are a lot out there that resemble that remark). I actually believe we need to have a strike at least for a wk; ppl would freak not having their stuff. Things would cease and theyd be begging us to come back but unfortunately most of us probably couldnt afford to do that and I dont think the way the economy is and the new government stuff they are trying to push would work for us. It might actually colapse in on itself this strike idea because of outside issues too. It is a good idea and it would be interesting to see how things play out.

good points guys and yeah i was just saying what a bunch of us were talking about at the truck stop. we had a strike in the 80's while working hauling gravel. Its just that alot of guys both young and old are finally seeing just what everyone of these companys and the government are doing to todays truckers. will a strike really happen prolly not but it would be way over due in the industry.

Strke by independents? Will never happen. However there is a much better solution. Lets incite the Swifts, Crsts England's JbHunts drivers To JOIN UNIONS!! You'll see how we become viable and profitable again!!! just my .02cts,,

Good Point VIA except those big mill companys wont. but like a friend of mine said its about the treatment more than hurting familys or anyone. Truckers are being treated worse today than yesterday
mje Thanks this. -
thanks nexwinner those were some really hard times for truckers. i owned seven trucks during that time kept them until 76 sold all but one and kept on. hell should have sold the one i was driving also. thanks for the link that was a long time ago and sometimes you just forget.
mje Thanks this. -
And they wonder why there is such a driver shortage.
mje Thanks this.
