Yep we need a leader in order to organize just like Hoffa. Go ask him for some tips. Oh wait you can't find him! :)

Back up to 1981 when Reagan replaced them all after they went on strike. I was one of the replacements.

Truckers are too spread out to organize and many are either happy, don't care or have bills and a family to take care of where they are not in a position to do without a check. The way they are lined up today if you walk there are five to take your job.

Well, the best time to do anything in this regard would be the first week of July when the new HOS kicks in. That would be a short week anyway with the 4th on Thursday. Only Mon - Wed is anyone going to be doing anything realistic. Sounds like a good time to take that summer vacation for a week and do something with the family, go fishing, catch up on that honey do stuff around the house, etc. If most everyone just took that week off for summer vacation in conjunction with a holiday, that would make a good enough statement. And they wouldn't be able to say we were on strike! The timing is perfect for the new HOS kicking in and the holiday the way it is. The stars are lined up the best I have ever seen to make a situation where the majority of truckers could just sit that week out.

Whatever anyone else decides, I am going to be spending that week finishing up a new deck on the house, wetting a line at a local water hole, and popping off a few rounds getting ready for deer season this fall.

And for the "not everyone can take time off" crowd, come on now. There is a driver shortage, remember? It's been in all the trucker magazines and on the trucker radio and talked about in the forums! They are not going to blanket can a bunch of folks for taking vacation, that is, unless you are one of those no count drivers that they have been wanting to get rid of anyway and this just gives them a good excuse.

Wouldn't do enough damage to raise awareness. 4th falls on a Thursday, most places will shut down wednesday or earlier and not open back up until Sunday or Monday. The time to be upset was when the new rules were announced, that was the time for action. Instead most didn't even know they were announced, then you had a certain percent that just wanted the lawyers to figure it out, and others that weren't too worried about the changes. I agree that getting organized is a start, but that wont accomplish much if drivers don't start educating themselves about the regulations and proposed regulations. Don't wait for changes to become effective, the time to strike is when changes are proposed.

You need to get the PEOPLE behind you to make it work , and that will NEVER happen.

When there were shutdowns / strikes the NEWS teams always interviewed the Guy polishing the CHROME on his Big $ truck / trailer about the HARD times truckers face.

People watching the news placed TRUCKERS in the same catagory as RICH PEOPLE complaing how the $ of fuel HAMPERED their pleasure cruising with their 80' yacht
