Truck drivers in Brasil claim reduction in transport costs, with allowance in the price of diesel, exemption from tolls for trucks and the creation of the Department of Road Transport Cargo. The truckers are also seeking the vote and sanction of the bill amending the Law 12.619/12 (Driver's Law/HOS).

The strike - not a simple protest - counted with 80% of truckers in that country and lasted 4 days. The independent truck drivers closed the main roads, caused 92 road blocks in major highways all over the country, stalled factories, prevented deliveries of trade affected the supply of cities and caused a loss in the economy that can reach the billions. Exhibited still widespread dissatisfaction, so far unknown to the inhabitants of large cities. Was radical to completely block roads, to coerce other drivers for membership and the right to prevent transit of many citizens. Caused antipathy to cause food waste in a country where the population goes hungry. But at the same time, laid bare the chaos of Brazilian transportation system, strategic issue for those who now thinks and discourses on development. Also revealed a total unpreparedness of the government to prevent and deal with critical situations. "We were concerned about the government's slowness. This strike should not last even 48 hours," admitted Nelio Botelho, Brazil Truckers Union leader, an organization parallel to the unions, which emerged with the mobilization and negotiated in Brasilia (federal capital) extensive list of demands of drivers, which included reduction in the rates of tolls for improvement of road safety. :protest:

Losses from North to South are still being counted. The VW factory in Resende stopped for 48 hours, as well as Fiat and Mercedes Benz, Minas. Ten of the 11 production units Sadia (similar to Tyson) also been discontinued due to lack of inputs. The food industry has been one of the hardest hit. The segment loss was the most visible of the horticultural trade. Largest wholesaler in central São Paulo, Ceagesp, only 96 of the 1,200 trucks that daily discharge arrived on Thursday 29th. "Watermelon costing £ 3 has increased to $ 5," complained the marketer Rovaldo Bras. If the strike to be extended, the impact on inflation would be inevitable. "Although the supply has started to stabilize on Friday, prices take a little longer to retreat. Therefore recommend that products rose as carrot and apple, are avoided," said Secretary of Agriculture of Rio, Luiz Rogério Magalhaes. "We could have stopped it at home, but if it does not cause all this turmoil no one hears us," laments Giuliano de São Paulo Jorge, who parked on Monday 26 at Dutra hwy.

So far government and truckers have agreed on the solution to the table of freight, the suspension of the toll increase and diesel and modification of the criteria of loss of points in the driver's truck. But we'll get 100% of the items.:yes2557:
One of the truckers' main purpose was to acquire respect and make people discover our importance. :smt038
The driver showed his strength, struck the country, the economy and this will weigh on inflation of the month. But truck drivers showed to be the class with greater firepower.
Only we can stop this country.

And that is about 600 in Brazil's currency, which is taxed heavily. Brazilian income tax is about 40%, and sales tax ranges from 60% to 120%.

At least they were able to unite and get the Gov's attention! That is much more then anybody, in the last 35 years, has been able to do in "ANY" industry in this country. If we could do something like that here, and present the Government with a realistic agenda, there would be some positive change. The problem we have is getting more that three people to agree on anything! That is quite obvious by reading the posts on just this board!

In their case, 90% hit rock bottom and had no other choice but stick together and appeal to radical measures. I guess in this country (America) folks have not yet suffered that kind of desperation. Most folks here have been kinda "comfortable", or better saying "contented" and "enjoying" what they have... :biggrin_2556: And they don't want to believe that one day it might become unbearable for everybody...

If anybody can't see this coming, you might want to open your eyes and ears a little more.
