Fighting for workers right to a fair wage has never been easy. The labor wars were the most violent of any modern industrialized nation. Labor unions have been gutted by decades anti union propaganda and as a result the middle class in our country, the real tax payers are slowly falling steadily into a society where for the first time our children will do less well the we have.
By creating a truckers union and demanding better wages all boats will rise.
Isn't it time to strike

omarthebear,
So you haven't been in the industry very long have you?
I have been in it for 10 years, and I come to learn after 6 months of being out here, you cannot and will not get every single truck driver to pull it over for a strike. Especially the mega company drivers who all work for poverty wages.
To organize a strike would be considered Racketeering by the Feds. They enacted that law back in the 70's to prevent a strikes by non union drivers.
Are you willing right now to stand up before the cameras of every single media outlet in the nation, and call all each and every truck driver to shut it down at the end of the month? I didn't think so, cause you don't want to go to jail.
Yes wages need to be raised, but we need every single driver in trucking to contact the Dept. Of Labor and tell them they need to put truck driving back as a Skilled Profession. Currently it is considered UNSKILLED, even though many have paid thousands of dollars to learn this trade. Every one needs to slam their State Representatives to Washington D.C. and let them know of the problems we drivers are having. But again, how many say ya they have and nothing was done? Continually call and write them , so they have no choice to look into the problems.
But like the hos issues , when those were up for comments a couple of years ago, out of 4 million current CDL holders, only 25,000 made a comment , when the fed were taking comments. Now look at the hos rules, screwed up even worse.
So what makes you think things are going to change by a strike?
Again I ask you if your willing to stand up in front of the media cameras and call for all truckers to park it. When you do that, I'll be right at your side, as well as many others.
Yes many say join OOIDA, cause that really the only voice truckers have speaking on our behalf. (im still deciding to join or not)
Probly the best thing that can done currently, is to run legal 100% of the time. Don't let your company tell you run when your tired, or sick. Or use broken equipment. Everything 100% legal. Including running your log book 100% good.
Then when your load is late for bad equipment or you not running illegal, these company's will sit up and take notice, that hey, theses drivers aren't that stupid after all. I guess we better pay attention to them more , and stop considering them just heartbeats behind the wheel.
While you here on this site, do a search on how many strike topics there are, and then come back here, and report on what they accomplished. -
I don't know what difference how long I've been out here has to do with anything, how long shoul I have to be out here to realize we are working for wages that make it hard to make ends meet.
Interesting to learn that striking is not an option, I should have realized that the powers that be would anticipated disgruntled workers...fortycalglock Thanks this. -
