If you don't like what you're doing, do something else. Not sure why you think you need to drag everyone else around with you -- I'm not an adolescent girl -- I can handle a trip to the potty by myself thank you.

The last time I tried to put a trike together, the front wheel wound up where the handlebars should be, and the seat was backwards.

I'd wholeheartedly support a truckers strike, but for different reasons. The government stupidity, especially in the US is a complete sham and a joke.

To reply to some of your concerns,

    1. Agreed that company drivers are grossly underpaid.

    2. I haven't seen a company that doesn't pay for empty miles, especially for a company driver. If that's the case, don't work for them! If that's common in the states, holy crap!!!

    3. My company is mostly drop and hook, but the times I have to wait with the trailer to load and unload, I get paid for it. Even when I was a company driver. I've recently had to wait for three days due to a planning screw up, but I got layover pay for that. My manager was not thrilled about the f-up.

    4. I'll give you that one. Agreed.

    5. When in the truck, that's how it is. When I'm at home off duty, that's my business. Thank the government for that.

6 & 7. I eat pretty well in the truck. Have a microwave to heat things and to cook rice, pasta, whatever and steaming vegetables. Just got a George Foreman G-broil grill. Love the thing. Can make up some hamburgers or a small steak in ten minutes. I live in my truck, so I don't have rent or the other trappings, and it is quite comfortable, but it is not for the claustrophobic. Got my toys to entertain myself.

    8. No argument, there.

    9. The BS I see in trucking is the government interference ladled out all the time. We are the highest trained individuals on the road, (some exceptions do apply, unfortunately) and yet we are regulated up the wazoo. Transport Canada is fairly decent, but the FMCSA is total garbage with a dumb broad who wouldn't know her arse from her elbow. They should be paid what the average driver gets so they have some clue as to what their "rules" are doing to the drivers of the economy.

Indeed ! Spineless jello backs is what we are........LOL

Give the guy credit tho...he's right. We are getting screwed everyday.....and we allow it. There is no answer tho. It's not a strike, been tried so I don't know.

Bill Graves gets a good insight into motor carrier management in this months trucker paper.....he's speaking about driver shortages and retention and hits on the poor salary. Thing is, most of the members of the ATA don't believe there is a shortage or that they need to pay what they have....any more $$. They simply believe we are not worth it .

They would rather hire more recruiters and set up free bbq tents at the truck stop to lure us in. Very shallow thinking IMO but typical of a motor carrier. Much like unreachable bonuses and incentives, again shallow.

    Dunno.......

The last time I tried to organize a strike I told everyone to shutdown at such and such date and time. That time come and I was the only one sitting on the shoulder. I got on the CB and pleaded with drivers. The first one said he was on his way home to his wife. The second one said his car payment and mortgage was due he couldn't afford it. The next one said he was scared he would get fired. Everyone else thought maybe I was broke down as they selfishly drove by or perhaps he stopped to take a leak.

I started my engine back up and headed back down the road as I've seen my efforts were fruitless. Drivers have reasons to strike but more reasons not to strike.
