The only way to get any shut down to work, you would have to have 95% or more of ALL of the drivers in this country to shut down, and with the "just a piece of meat behind the seat" mentality of most of the big companies like swift, Werner, etc, I doubt if it's going to happen. Most of these outfits will just fire the drivers who participate in a shutdown, and hire some of these nimrods that are being cranked out by the cdl mills.

There are 24 State that have the Right to Work, that means 1/2 the country will not fall in to your strike movement, without risking being fired.
Right-to-work statutes forbid unions from negotiating agency shops. Thus, while unions do exist in "right-to-work" states, they are typically weaker and their strength in negotiating is pushed a side and dismissed.

So dream on it just ain't going to happen, The jobs people have already may be not what they want? But there is 7.9% of the population unemployed. With the present economic situation to go on Strike now would be an economic employment suicide. Besides Obama has enough problems trying to balance the Budget and get his health care program up and running to worry about your "grievances".

Do you remember President Reagan? He fire about 12,000 Unionized Air Traffic Controllers for striking, because it put the country at risk.

Oh and remember this, although it could cause riots, if you managed to shut down the country, the Troops and National Guard would be brought in to stabilize the country.

Oh here's one for you what have the Unions done for the Detroit Auto Industry recently????

And you realize the national guard is pretty much useless correct? What are they going to do shoot some tear gas and parade around telling us to get moving or well be arrested? Oh wow I'm so scared hell arrest us all well have a hey day in the county jail.

As for your economic employment suicide I don't see it that way. Although I will say this I do see it another way. In my dreams a 3 week strike would show everybody just what truck drivers do for this country. And just how important we are. Nobody seems to care about us obviously and we get no respect maybe after that we would get some respect. I don't see what shutting DC down for 3 days is going to accomplish. Personally I'd rather line trucks up nose to tail on I80 coast to coast and shut down there. Create a major cluster #### for everybody.

I think that would get more attention than this 3 day DC strike I keep hearing about that supposedly going to happen on the 11th I'll believe it when I see it. If they could shut down DC itd be nice but I don't see it accomplishing much of anything at all.

Not a matter of guts, its more about the fact that we need to keep our lights on. Not happy with your carrier? Go sign on somewhere else. Not happy with ANY carrier? Go pick up a different line of work. I am happy with my carrier. I get paid/treated really well.

We don't need to shut down the entire country to make a point!

All we need to do is choose a medium city, let's say Akron, OH, draw a fifty mile circle from the center of town and designate anything inside that circle as OFF-LIMITS.

    NOTHING IN AND NOTHING OUT!!!!

Within one day, gas stations would be out of fuel. By the second day, grocery stores would have no fresh meat, produce, or milk. By the third day, toilet paper would be gone. I expect by then we will have this nation's attention.

If everyone simply refused loads going into or out of the "OFF-LIMIT" city for THREE DAYS, NO ONE would get fired!
NO ONE would lose their truck! NO ONE would have the house foreclosed on or have the family go hungry!!!

If THE DRIVER really is the CAPTAIN of the ship, WHY DO WE LET DICKSPATCHERS TELLS US WHERE TO GO???????

    HERE IS THE BEST PART!

Once we succeed in shutting down ONE city for THREE DAYS, HOW MANY OTHER CITIES ARE GOING TO SUFFER THE SAME DAMAGE and how many are going to be a little more trucker friendly????

^ ^ That's sort of my opinion on the matter except I take it a bit further to directly address another real problem for the trucking industry today ... California. I say we cut off the entire state. Just don't go in. Period. For about 2 weeks. It will impact CA greatly as well as the fresh produce and wines impact will be felt throughout the nation very quickly but will not necessarily bring the entire nation to it's knees ... just California which needs to be put in their place.

It's ALOT easier to shut down a small 50 mile circle, and therefore more likely to accomplish our goals!!!

Too many cut-throat operations, large and small, will ignore any major blockade!

    1. You can't demand respect you have to earn it. And quite frankly I can see why you have a problem.

    2. Holding the country or a town to ransom, is not going to improve your desire to be looked on in a favorable way. It certainly won't help you get what you think you deserve.

    3. Calling the National Guard useless is an insult, They have proved themselves over and over again in Iraq and Afghanistan protecting freedom and in a lot of cases sacrificing lives. I doubt you would know what its like to wear a uniform or do anything for someone else without thinking of yourself first.

    4. According to your profile you have 1 year of trucking experience? Yet proclaim you know everything that is wrong with the industry. There is give and take in everything, but it looks as though you only want to take!!

    5. When President Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers, they were temporary replaced by the Military and a few non Union controllers. If as you proclaim the "Useless troops firing tear gas would parade around" You once again show your ignorance of what would happen. Ever hear of Marshall Law? Ever Hear of Curfews? Ever hear of Instigating a civil disturbance and how about obstruction of Justice and civil liberties.

As someone has already said, your in the wrong profession. Perhaps you should start your own business and do all the things you profess to know are wrong with the work force and those within it.

it will never happen and if it does, just few owner ops showing up in dc WILL NOT change a thing!

drivers only care about themselves and in a few weeks...even after being all over facebook, the blaze and even the glenn beck show. You will see that fact displayed for all the world to see when just a handful of drivers go to dc!
