After reading all the post on strikes and hearing truckers out on the road cry Union I emailed the local Teamsters where I live.

Wasn't expecting it but within about an hour of my email and leaving him my info he called my cell.

The man was raring to go.

He gave me the basic rundown on how it happens.
Its a simple process to start,to be done legally the union has to be essentially invited in and a vote taken amongst the drivers.(I'm assuming 51% wins)
The Teamsters Headquarters needs to be in the area where the company is based.
Federal Law prevents an employer from firing a person over contacting the Teamsters and doing this.
But the Rep did hint that emotions can run pretty high during this kind of thing.

As far as contracts go they would be close to UPS or similar.
Get paid your miles as usual plus the detention time that eats up a drivers paycheck, etc.

Didn't go into to much detail overall, that's about all I can recall.

    :)

I was left with the impression that it can happen and a better working environment for drivers and their families
    can be had.
Detention is all I personally wish for, sitting for long periods of time due to shipper/receiver issues is an absolute paycheck killer.

IMO Unionization would have to be done on a nationwide level in order to be successful...a simultaneous initiative coordinated by a few drivers on the inside at the majority of each of the nations trucking companies on or about the same date and time.
A kind of critical mass event as it were
(anything less than an all out assault would most likely fail)

Washington would be left scrambling, the companies would be flat out overwhelmed, and the drivers just might win for once.

    Thanks for reading

I'm guessing there's a merge option for mods of this forum. Half of these posts mirror each other...

Cant believe you guys actually took the time to reply to this thread. :)

But yes...I remember working years ago for a union company...we all drove broke down beaters to work had blue jeans and every one appeared kinda poor, brought sac lunches,etc....across the street at the Union Hall were nothing but the finest Cadillac cars!:biggrin_25523:

Unions are done as far as true usefulness...they are just free riding labor nowadays, nothing but leeches

But i must say my plan sounded radical and wild...like storming a beach head or something.

I say we call B/S....and pronounce this thread ((((DEAD)))))

    RIP
