I am ashamed of the guys that did the Ride For the Constitution over this weekend. I am not saying I feel bad for them that nobody attended. I am just saying I am ashamed to be associated just by career trade.

I am fully supportive of their message... i.e. deregulate trucking, get rid of Obama, make trucking for both company drivers/OOIDA more enjoyable. But the way they went about it was childish. First off, only about 45-50 drivers showed up. Then they had their 60 seconds of fame/photo-op of four trucks using up four lanes and block traffic while traveling at 15 mph.

Brilliant! They blocked traffic for a minute, pissed off their fellow commuters, and got pulled over/verbally cited. And this helps out the trucking image how? Social media users all over took the chance to mock us. They called us a bunch of meth-driven drivers that should be jailed for treason.

This whole Ride for the Constitution was completely counter productive. What a huge time and waste. For once I am ashamed to be a commercial driver.

The next time you guys plan a stupid stunt like this... focus on what really matters. Remind people WHY THEY NEED US BY STRIKING. Deny consumers the cereal they eat each morning, or deny them the asphalt to lay the additional lanes of roadway to make their commute to work faster.

We do not need drivers to intentionally impede traffic to remind the general traveling public of how ###### our newby drivers are of holding a wheel.

We don't need to hurt the people who are the reason we have a job either. They don't write the laws. Blocking traffic, not delivering the goods to the public, not delivering gasoline, diesel, heating oil, good, medicine, etc, that doesn't help our "cause". Whatever the hell that cause is anymore. "Shutting down America" is what a terrorist would want to do, and do they did on September 11. I don't like the thought of being labeled a terrorist because of people in this industry who do not or will not get it. If better treatment or wages is what you demand, then demand it. Do it by being better. Demand better of your fellow drivers. Do you think the public cares about us when we have slobs, drug addicts, drunks, people who tailgate 4 wheelers because they think that by using their size they will intimidate them into moving over and the other 8,000,000 reasons why John Q Public looks down at us? The way to better treatment and wages is to change as an industry as a whole. Two lunatics who are on a conspiracy theory/anarchist Internet radio show aren't the answer. You are. And I am. And every driver who reads these words. We were the Knights of the Road. People looked up to us. There was a lot of pride in being a truck driver. If you want a better industry, then we need to take it back. Like right wingers say what they want to do about the country. Take it back. If we don't call out the derelicts and the unsafe driving and the variety of jaw dropping behavior we see out of the minority of us, we will continue to be looked at as the miscreants THEY are.
