April Fools to

Well I am starting my days off the 1st. I have heard this will be for one week. The amount of brokers calling is increasing, but they just can't seem to meet my rate. In fact they they have asked us what it will take. To bad the shipper or receiver is not willing to budge. Three days may be good if it works and makes headlines in papers or segments of TV. I can sit for a while, only thing I have to cover is utilities and some labor. Looks like I will have some time to add more stainless to the lawn ornaments. For the drivers who just complain and say it won't work, hey it's your life and your opinion, but if you end up loosing everything because you haul cheap freight and get beat out of money from not so trustworthy shippers, receivers and brokers or employers who go broke, Don't cry. But also do this, if the few of us who do try and make this work, don"t make a claim to fame that you participated.

Smiley 5 It's not the price of fuel...

that concerns me. It's the rates. It always has been and always will be about the rates. Please quit the nonsense about striking and get to the real problem. No one is going to have an impact on the price of diesel fuel. The fuel prices are too much for any group of truckers to be able to get changed. There are too many company drivers running company rigs that aren't affected by the fuel prices and too few independent operators that are feeling the real hurt. If you are a lease operator and your carrier isn't compensating you by increasing your rate/surcharge then park that truck now!!! Remember-you can just as easily go broke sitting as you can running someones freight for free. If you are a company driver and want to pretend that you are somehow affected by all of this then please get it down the road and let the ones who are opening their wallet at the pump figure this out. You are not affected. If you are a independent hauling for a broker, please do everything within your power to negotiate a decent rate and please make sure they aren't spending your FSC on a new boat this summer. If you are an independent hauling for your own shipper ask for an increase in your rate and/or FSC. They can't dispute that you are feeling the pain.

The percent went up Chicago
The higher the numbers the greater the chances. I know its just a forum poll but it kinda gives a general idea that people are tired and fed up. There's also no point in arguing, its like beating your head against the wall!

As a matter of fact, the OOIDA said that, officially they could not sanction a strike...

Wise, you too are correct. We need the general public behind us. And our signs need to reflect that. If we just post about freight rates and fuel, they will not understand the impact. But if we project that we are attempting to keep consumer goods from over inflating, then I think that they will understand and back us.

The news has been doing a good job of making a point to the public that the cost is passed on directly to THEM. But more people need to know. More people need to understand that trucking in this country, is the post that all the cogs run on.
Do you think the government is going to do anything ? Maybe they'll bale out the trucking industry ! Like they have the airlines , insurance companys and now the big banks ! Ha !
