nashville tn fox 17 news strike story

Fox 17 news is coming to Gallatin tn to our office to do a story on the truck strike. I am telling them it's set for April 1st. So, if the date is different or if ya'll aren't totally serious about it now's the time to say so. All I did was e-mail all the news channels, this is the seond time they've been out here. maybe it will help get the news out to other truckers and all of us can do this together.

strike

well folks this is my first post and I must admit some of you have really entertained me. I remember the strike of '74 I was a teenager and my father was an O/O that was the only strike to ever have an effect on the industry. some of you think all you have to do is park your truck at home and take the kids to disneyland for a couple days WRONG!!!! you can call me a nutcase all you want but the facts are that you need support willing and unwilling. I am not advocating violance but the large companies and the company drivers will not support you. a lot of people need to have the balls to block fuel pumps at truckstops so the company trucks can't get fuel and have no choice but to shut down. trust me 2 or 3 days wont do it plan on at least a week or 2. many of you are saying you can't afford that. well if you cant squeeze by for a week or 2 then you will be broke within 6 months anyway. the money you lose by shutting down 2 weeks will be made up within 2 months after the freight rates are brought up and then you can start making a profit. you will never bring the price of fuel down since oil prices are set on the WORLD market. however freight rates are a different thing. one last thing during the '74 strike fuel was around $.40 per gallon and I remember my father turning down $5200 for a load from Ca. to Boston that was 34 years ago what are you hauling it for now.

well wiseone, your poll didn't get a lot of interest but judging from the rather large amount of news that is all over the place the shutdown is sure gaining attention even worldwide.
it also looks like the big guys are hurting enough to show some support as well as some of the unions, hopefully enough will take this seriously and stand together and get this settled quickly so the country doesn't suffer to much

hey everyone, new to the forum. I read this thread from the begining, alot of good points on boths sides of the topic. I drive for a fairly big company on the east coast, that shall remain nameless. It seemed a couple of you protested the involvement of company drivers to par-take in the strike because it doesn't hurt our wallet like it does O/O and Indepents. This is true, not gonna lie. yeah my fuel IS paid for by the company, however, i don't think this thing is work as well as we'd like to unless the bigger companys agree to strike with the rest you. This is not just about crying over the increase of fuel and gas prices, EVERYTHING has gone up over the past couple years and it's ridiculous. something has to be done, and done soon!!! I gaurantee that , if the stike is on, you'll see that all black rig of mine parked along with the rest of you!!!!!!

I have no problem with a company driver who is scheduled to work or has to work. I have no problem with and independent who is in need of making something to feed his family. I do how ever have a problem with the drivers who ever they are that say this is wrong, and we are wasting our time and so on. We need to get our point across, without undermining from those drivers, who don't want to participate or just don't care because they are comfortable. I would appreciate those drivers to keep their comments to themselves.

Anyone ever heard of free speech? I would appreciate poorly managed business folks from spouting off supposed facts of which they have no knowledge. But they do it anyway. Makes for interesting discussions IMHO.

Forcing anyone in this country to do anything stinks of socialism. Is that what everyone wants? Government handouts? No free market economy? Regulation?

Everyone who wants to participate in the shutdown is free to do so. Doesn't mean that everyone has to agree, but it does mean that everyone can express their opinion. The veiled threats to those who choose not to support the effort is wrong and in no way puts forth a positive representation of EVERYONE in this business. Threats to block fuel islands, rest areas, possible violence towards people and equipment shows a total lack of responsibility and respect for the basic ideals of this country.

I still do not undestand why the focus is not on the manufacturers, shippers, lease carriers, or brokers but zeroed in on the government and oil companies. I also have yet to hear one single compelling reason why anyone should participate. And asking that anyone "keep their comments to themselves" is not helping the cause.
