Poll: Truckers Strike - When Will Truckers Stand Together? IF Ever?

Here's the problem with all this talk about a strike: WHO is speaking for EVERYONE? Who does the media go to for the "final word"? Without the media on your side, this strike will not have NEAR as much impact as if it WERE on your side.
Isn't this part of the reason unions exist? I'm not in a union and am neither for or against them, but at least they have a central spokesperson to go talk to when something's up.
Wouldn't it help, at least a little more, if you're really going to have results, to have a strike with EVERYONE involved writing or calling their congressman/woman and telling them what you are doing?
Should the government get involved?
Do any of you have any thoughts about this? Is there an official constitution of what should be done to make truck drivers happy? Does anyone know what this policy is? Can I go online somewhere and look it up?
This is what the common man/woman is going to want to see. If you don't have the public behind you, this is all just a waste of time - unless - of course - enough drivers shut down that the economy is stopped because of it. And then......WHO is going to speak for the masses of truck drivers? See?
What if the media only gets hold of morons that have no clue? They are speaking for YOU.
There are too many issues being left to the wind here.

Hell, I'll offer this: if this forum and it's administrators are FOR a trucking strike, then it only makes sense that there is a dedicated section on this forum for the masses to come - via google searches, ASK searches, whatever searches - to find out what this forum's opinion is of the vast majority of trucker's issues. It only makes sense that all of these trucking sites do the same thing.
What do people do when they are looking for something they don't know where to find? Google.com.

i have not yet seen a trucker haul for nothing to get home. so taking your strikes and everything else there is always going to be some one trying to get home. in the 70"s during the strike, this is exactly what took place......

we complained that the fuel went from 40 cents to 75 cents a gallon in '78, the rates were low,and we're STILL complaining. Now the fuel is up over $4 a gallon and the rates up 10% since then, insurance had tripled, and now we're complaining to go on strike agian. The owner and lease operators can not pull this off by themselves. The only one who was doing anything about this was Jimmy Hoffa!! And we all know where he is now. Unless the company's, O/O, and lease operators ALL form together this has fail written all over it!

we need to educate. the cost of fuel has driven up the cost of produts to the consumers. this is where the battle should be fought. it's taken a year since high fuel cost really existed, people NOW are feeling the impact of that. now fuel is at over $4 a gallon, whats going to happen to the price of our fruits and vegetables a year from now. consumers are complaining about the high cost of product, now is the time to educate consumers (the people). the only way to survive is to drive the cost of fuel down, not only for the trucker, but for the consumer as well.


this is coming from my father, and grandfather, who have been in and around trucking since 1936.

Look wheather you support the idea of a stike, slowdown, whatever, If your reading this your thinking about it. Everyone can at the least do this small thing. If we all want this to work we need the media behind us or at least report on this April 1st idea of a stike. You are already on your computer, now look up your local news stations and e-mail them of your views, ask them to report on this. I have already done so, hope some of you have already or will now. If we can get them to report on this before April 1st it will only get more people behind us.

What good will it do with no major support from an association. From what I see OOIDA, ATA and all others are opposed to it.
All I've heard from drivers is they're going home, going fishing, or something other than making a presence of the issue at hand.
There has to be public brocasting of some sort, billboads, banners on trucks, and even telivision commercials or public announcements.
I recently found out about it and nobody can give me any solid information on it. It seems like an idle threat at this point, so the gov will not even flinch on a proposed strike that is scheduled to last for one week.

As a driver and an independent, there are many more reasons than just the cost of fuel to shutdown.

1. Stop the Harassment from the DOT.
The logbook was meant as a means
for Union drivers to keep track of their
hours, insuring proper payment for
their time.
2. To get rid of the CDL and the point
system, that currently raises the cost
of insurance and tickets to more than
double that of a regular license.
3. YES. the outrageous cost of fuel. Fuel
is a bi-product of gasoline and has
always been lower priced because of
this.
4. If we as drivers are required to have a
CDL, shouldn't anyone pulling a boat,
camper, driving an RV etc.. also be
required to go through the training
and testing that a Truck Driver must.
5. To get rid of IFTA and all other
excessive taxes that charged to only
truckers/trucking companies.Highway
Usage taxes do not go past the IRS
and their deep pockets.
6.***We as drivers have not had a raise
in pay/rates in nearly 25 years.
7. Trucking is the most regulated industry
in the USA. We must stop the over-
regulation of this industry.
8. As drivers, we need to stand together
to oppose the NAU and Real ID, both
will destroy not only the trucking
industry, but OUR America.

OOIDA and American Trucking Association DO NOT care what happens to the Independent Driver. We must have an organized, peaceful shutdown of all the independent truckers, and any company that
has the nerve to do so. It is time we all stand
together as a group, a family...fight for our rights and for the needs of our families.
