Truckers Strike Forum We all hear of a trucker strike. Let's put all the trucker strike threads in here, please so they will more organized. What do YOU think of a trucker strike due to outrageous fuel prices? The April 1st strike fizzled as expected. $5/gal. or more MAY make truckers stand together...if even then.

The Strike First of all, let me say that I'm a company driver and the price of diesel fuel does not directly affect me work wise (not yet anyway). It appears that the owner-operators are the ones most affected by the outrageous price of diesel. I do think that a strike is great in theory, I'm sure that it would be extremely difficult to get 10 truckers to cross the street at the same time. One must remember that America has a free market economy, which is mainly supply & demand. When supply is up, prices go down. When supply is down, prices go up. When demand is up and retains a constant level, prices go up. When demand is down, the prices go down. Let's look at the big picture, shall we? It seems that when anyone in the Middle East sneezes, the price of oil takes a big leap upwards. If I were an owner-operator I would certainly look at where the folks at Flying J, Pilot, T/A, and the other truck stops get their oil. I would focus my fuel purchasing with companies that don't use Middle Eastern oil. Another thing I would do is run my rig at the MINIMUM legal speed on the highway. Why? To INCREASE my fuel mileage and REDUCE my DEMAND. Can you just imagine the dent in DEMAND the truckers of this country would do if they would ALL drive this way? The supply of diesel would go up and the price will come down.

The Strike (Page 2) I ran out of room on my first post, so let me continue. In regards to Middle Eastern oil. The Saudis are boycotting American goods. Let's return the favor. Every time you fill up your truck or car, you can avoid putting more money in the coffers of Saudi Arabia. After all, where is Bin Laden from? Where did the hijackers of 9/11 come from? Buy your fuel and gas from companies that don't use Middle Eastern oil. Here are the companies that are sleeping with the enemy. Shell-205,742,000 barrels. Chevron/Texaco-144,332,000 barrels. Exxon/Mobil-130,082,000 barrels. Marathon/Speedway-117,740.000 barrels. Amoco- 62,231,000 barrels. The oil companies that DO NOT use Middle Eastern oil are, Sunoco, Conoco, Sinclair, BP/Phillips, Hess, and Arco. All that is required is a little bit of homework to find out where your truckstop of choice is getting their oil. Just my thoughts.

Middle Eastern oil does not profit just the Saudis. American oil companies are heavily invested there, and, to attempt to strike a blow at Saudi oil is to attempt to strike at American companies, of which I, and many others own significant stocks. I don't much care for your plan. We could all just start buying CITGO and help support our good friend Hugo Chavez down in Venezuela. NOT!! |

[quote=freightmaster;393626]I can tell by this thread the public is behind this shutdown. The only reason I still see trucks running up and down the highway has got to be one of two reasons. Either these drivers are afraid to unite with their fellow truckers out of fear or they are just plain greedy! My truck WILL remain parked until we get results. The elderly cannot keep up with the rising cost of food, heating oil and medicine! This industry has gone to **** since I began driving in 1982.GET SOME BACKBONE DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() You honestly believe that driver? Because a couple hundred people on a forum took a poll you feel confident that the public is with you? I am not afraid to unite with you I just chose not to. I am not greedy, I am not gaining anything I wouldn't already make. Limiting the number of trucks on the road during a "Strike" will further drive up transportation cost. How does this help the elderly and fixed income crowd. Tell you what. You go on strike to get me higher wages and i'll do it for whatever it is you're trying to do.
