Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Truckers Strike Forum We all hear of a trucker strike. Let's put all the trucker strike threads in here, please so they will more organized. What do YOU think of a trucker strike due to outrageous fuel prices? The April 1st strike fizzled as expected. $5/gal. or more MAY make truckers stand together...if even then.

Owner-operators might park today

Owner-operators might park today

KIRKERSVILLE, Ohio -- Today could be the day the trucks stop rolling.
Across the nation, on citizens band channels, independent truckers are talking about parking their rigs today and letting their countrymen know how much it needs them. If not today, some say, then one day next week, or the next, but with diesel fuel hovering near $4 a gallon, someday soon.

"They're desperate for someone to pay attention," said Glen "Jonesy" Jones, who hosts a daily, four-hour radio show for truckers on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Jones said the idea of a national trucking boycott gets almost constant discussion on his program, a sort of national CB chat where hundreds of truckers a day call in to express their opinions.
More often than not, he said, that topic is the cost of diesel.
"But it lacks organization," he said "These aren't the Teamster days; there's no Jimmy Hoffa."

Although he has heard today as one of the likely dates for a possible halt to all trucking by owner-operators -- drivers who own their own vehicles and contract for their services -- he's heard just as much talk about April 1 or April 3.

Local Truckers On Strike Over High Gas Prices
3/24/08
Quote:
ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. -- Monday morning, several truckers turned off their engines to protest the over $4 a gallon and up they are paying for diesel fuel.

The strike began at midnight Sunday and could impact many items bought at stores.

Starting at midnight, truckers have been pulling off Route 66 in Armstrong County to show their support for the protest.

Channel 11 found a Citgo station in Vandergrift, five miles south of Pittsburgh, where diesel fuel is $4.39 a gallon. That's 10 cents over the Pittsburgh region average and up 70 cents from a month ago.

A 51 percent fuel charge will reach every milk drinker or potato chip eater.

Truck driver Donald Waltenbaugh knows an owner operator with 14 trucks who is being forced to shut down because of the high cost of diesel fuel. He wants consumers to know if they bought it the truckers brought it, but not for long. http://www.wpxi.com/news/15688690/detail.html

We've been sitting for a week!!

Only one but it's been sitting for a week. Not enough left over for all the payments so going out is just wearing out the truck for like minimum wage MAYBE.

He can make more loading iron with a pickup and small trailer and selling it. Something is wrong with this picture??

I'm off today as well.

Its pretty easy to do since the company I'm leased to doesn't have work today.
