| Truckers Strike Forum We all hear of a trucker strike. Let's put all the trucker strike threads in here, please so they will more organized. What do YOU think of a trucker strike due to outrageous fuel prices? The April 1st strike fizzled as expected. $5/gal. or more MAY make truckers stand together...if even then. |

Good Morning to all The Drivers and Owners on this thread. I woke up reading the continuing argument on the subject. Just for a little info, If your truck gets 6 miles per gallon at 59 miles per hour and the cost of fuel(deisl) is at 3.99 Per gallon That is a cost of $39.23 Per hour that you are spending continusly . In order to make any money at the average of 1.30 Per mile that you are getting Paid( chrobinson) You will make $76.70 Per 59 miles in an hour. That will leave $37.47 in the clear, but wait we must pay our Insurance, we will start with Liability, which at a low cost will be approximately $1.48 cents Per Hour driving 59 miles in that hour and paying on a quarterly basis.2290= .06 cents per mile driven then we must pay uncle sam that is $10.73per hour of driving 59 mph. Then we must pay the fuel taxes and this depends on which state you are in ,I will choose texas as it is a low state of .22 times that by 59mph is $12.98 Subtract all that and you clear a whopping 12.22 Per hour of driving 59 miles per hour and that doesn't leave any room for flats nor food nor breakdowns. ![]() Sandradee from Florida |

Does anyone remember what happened years ago when the Teamsters went on strike?...the strike did have some positives that came because of the strike. The Problem is not Leaser, O/O, or company drivers...it really doesn't matter what your drivers title is - WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BUSINESS,,,providing a service to the public. This is an Election year so the (new) President needs something that they can promise to get the price down (yeah right). With as many trucks out there on the road ... the different time zones...truckers with and without computer...is there really a chance for everyone to PULL together as ONE body? To be as ONE body as a STRIKE issue there needs to be ORGANZATION...and I see that has a problem. But at last we are human. Last edited by kickingdeer; 07.05.2008 at 11.57 AM. |

| Well I'm not exactly jumping at the chance to help out o/o's. I've taken abuse from them in the past. I'm still banking good checks. I think it's funny that almost every day I used to hear some o/o giving me hell on the c/b telling me to get out of the hammer lane. Now their the ones driving 55. I'm not saying all o/o's out there are bad but there are plenty. Oh well, this is capatalism, if you can't adjust you have to go. Also, saying that people speed out of truckstops so that people think you have a fast truck is ridiculous, and putting your atennas forward gives them more clearance so that you don't break them all the time. Those two comments are typical of the "holier than thou" attitude that I was talking about. I for one won't strike for you. Hey don't pick up your load, that's just more for me. |
