DENVER (CBS4) ― Independent truckers across the United States are working to organize a protest strike this week as the cost of fuel keeps rising. Some truckers plan to stay off the road anywhere from one day to one week.

The group wants to send a message to lawmakers.

The average driver spends about $50 to fill-up a tank with regular unleaded right now. A trucker spends about ten times that to fill-up one of their tanks with diesel fuel.

"Not just we're suffering, everybody is," said Edward Rodriguez, a trucker. "Eighteen wheelers, four wheelers, you can't make a living like that."

Independent truckers make up about one-fifth of the truckers on the road in the U.S.
