Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Truckers Strike Forum We all hear of a trucker strike. Let's put all the trucker strike threads in here, please so they will more organized. What do YOU think of a trucker strike due to outrageous fuel prices? The April 1st strike fizzled as expected. $5/gal. or more MAY make truckers stand together...if even then.

Oop just showed the I-24 split in Nashville and I saw 4-5 trucks nothing like usual though.
No impact at all in the Birmingham, Al area. Trucks running wide open across Alabama and Mississippi thru-out the day.

Execution does seem a bit spotty. I made a circuit of a few
of the Eastern MA rest stops today, and talked to a couple of
drivers ... while they more or less knew about it, they were
still running. A couple were under a pretty solid impression
that all this is supposed to go down APRIL 3, not today, from
what they'd heard on the CB. Nobody had signs out. One of
the first comments I'd get from anyone was "there's no union,
no organization."

So I watched 'em go by for a while. Kennedy Inc. Western Express.
Aspen. J&D. FST Logistics. Landstar. Crete. US Food Service.
ALTL. Zumstein. Arnold. Leander Logistics. JG Trucking.
Hilltop Trucking. Timberland. K2 Express. Long Line Trucking.
Double K. Hamrick. Walsh. ContinentalX. One Way Express.
Bowman. Hartt. Delta Logistics. Palmer Dedicated. Puglia.
Givens. Plenty of Maersk containers. And any number of Canadians
that one of the guys pointed out as we were standing there chatting.
All still running, from what we could see. Along with the usual
local boys and the normal lane-fluff from the Swifts, Schneiders,
Wal-marts, and Hunts of the world which as we read here are doing
their best to ignore it.

Maybe the next couple of days will start to be different. I've
got a bunch of friends and other forum-readers interested in all
this now, and they're probably out buying groceries and gas and
getting ready to watch y'all go kick some serious butt!

[quote=TX_Proud;391090]If you can't afford to buy fuel and you can't afford tires, then wake up and smell the coffee. I doubt the public wants you on the road with defective equipment, I know I don't want you out there.

HERE'S YOUR SIGN!

I guess my sign would say Shocked! I doubt the average public would agree with you as the average public is having a challenge putting gas in their vehicle let alone maintaining it.. Look at some of the cars driving around (is it ok to run along side them?) Not trying to criticize but your statement is like saying that if you can't afford health care or medicine then go ahead and croak because the public doesn't want you around anyway. People who are struggling doesn't necessarily mean they should quit nor are they running defective.

You're probably right. One of my daughters friends went on vacation with us a couple of years ago. During the trip, we stopped to let a flatbed back into a driveway. The girl was "amazed" that the truck could go backwards. Although she was only 15, I still LMAO. Of course, my daughter did too.

Many people know little or nothing about trucks.

I was specifically referencing the picture from yesterday's PA rally showing the extremely poor condition of the tires on the truck. There is no way that truck would pass inspection! And I agree with you that there are many cars out there that should be put out of service as well. But to compare an 80,000 lb truck to a dilapidated car is like comparing apples to oranges. Truck drivers are expected to be professional and they are held to a higher standard from the public. I'm just saying, this didn't happen yesterday but has been building for months, and at some point any reasonable person has to step back and look at the numbers and perhaps get out if it's not working for them. But there are a great deal of drivers out there who are managing, and managing well, in spite of the current economic issues.

It also shows on the roadways when the 4 wheelers cut us off like nothing

We get load list e-mails from PLS, Pittsburgh, PA and Majestic Steel, Cleveland, OH
The list from PLS was maybe one page before, but now they send 3 email
with about 10 pages each of loads to be covered. They sent a e-mail out that loads could be viewed on their website.

Majestic Steel Also has a longer list than before

Either large orders for 1st of month or maybe we are making some headway!!

The Ozarks here in Missouri has far less truck traffic than usual. Although I-44 was still a scab thoroughfare!
