Help us, please! You guys can stop gas inflation! 6/6/08
Dear Truckers, Drivers, Long Haulers, Riders, Rebels, Lifeblood of America,
America needs your help.
This is a plea for help from an average citizen. I am not a trucker, but my father was. He hauled for Georgia Pacific and as I kid I’d ride with him on his route from Portland, OR to Los Angeles. He was a teamster for 35 years, for better or for worse. But he taught me to respect truckers, and to recognize that everything I see and use in my life was brought there by a trucker. You are the most under appreciated group of workers in America.
And I believe it is you who solely has the power to stop rising gas prices and possibly bring them down.
My reasons for this is simple. You are completely dependent on gasoline for your livelihood. Just as you are the backbone and lifeblood of America, gasoline is your lifeblood, and you need it to do what you do. And now, diesel gas is up to $4.50/gal in many areas, with no signs of stopping. The gas increases hurts your pockets as it rises faster than your pay, and it rises faster than the profits the products bring to the company. In turn, EVERYBODY is hurt by rising gas prices.
But because you guys are the supply line, and you are directly affected by gas prices, you guys must be one the ones to in turn affect the gas prices. You need to send a message to the government of the US and to the oil companies that these prices will not stand.
Furthermore, you can affect change faster because you are far more organized and far better networked than us citizens. You meet at truck stops and you directly communicate with each other on CB instantly, a networking system that works faster than the internet and cell phones.
Furthermore, what I propose goes beyond picketing, which can be ignored. These are the beginnings of desperate times, and they call for drastic measures, and it’s easy for politicians and companies to ignore protesters with picket signs. Action is called for.
Action.
The action I propose is simple. On a certain day in July, every trucker in the US parks his truck wherever they are, either at a rest stop, or a truck stop, or by the side of the road. You all just stop hauling and sit and wait. You wait until the government and the oil companies take notice, you wait until they take action. You guys will effectively stop America. We as citizens will survive for a few days, but this will be a wakeup call to everyone, the arbitrary rise in gasoline prices WILL NOT STAND.
And yes, I realize some of the consequences for this. Mail won’t be delivered. Frozen products might melt. I leave it to you to figure out when to organize the stop, heck, you could pick any date to stop, but I suggest doing it soon and doing it this summer. July 14th or 22nd or whatever. I also realize that your jobs will be at stake, but if EVERYONE does it, then that worry will cease when gas prices do drop. Your contractors and companies will thank you, manufacturers and retailers will thank you.
America will thank you.
Again, this is a drastic measure, but as I said, action must be taken. Remember times in our past when heroes and history makers took decisive and direct action in the face of tyranny. You will be remembered for your heroism.
The national average for gasoline in the US in 2000 was $1.30 a gallon. Now it has climbed 3 dollars in the last eight years. In 1992, gasoline was $1.08 a gallon. So from 1992 to 2000, gasoline jumped 22 cents. From 2000-2008, it jumped $3. There is no reason for this . . . there is no gas shortage and there isn’t significantly more cars on the road from 2000 to now.
We need to send a clear message to the Government and the Oil companies that we the people will not consume $4.00 gas. We shouldn’t even consume $3.00 or even $2.50 gas (which it was just 2 years ago).
Talk about this with each other. You guys have the power to do this.
Please help us.
Thank you.
And please spread this message. I wrote this in a short amount of time, and you can contribute to it if you’d like.

strike
This sounds like a good idea to me but it wont work. First of all company drivers that don't pay for their fuel don't care what they pay. I heard it out of a truckers mouth my self say he does not even pay attentation to the price he just pumps. Second I might say I'll do it but if everyone doesn't it wont work, and when I'm setting there watching other trucks drive by then I gonna start driving too. It may work for o/o but company drivers dont care. Why should they most of the time they are in a co. truck the fuel is paid for and they are only home for a couple of days so they dont buy much fuel for their own car unless they have a family at home then they might care. Plus with out o/o the big co.s would just take over completely.

Let me see... now the general public wants us ? Again?
Let me count the ways.
"no idling"
"no trucks"
"no jake brakes"
"Cars 70 mph, Trucks 55 mph"
"no parking on off ramps"
"no parking...period"
"no trucks left lane"
"no trucks left 2 lanes"
Need I go on???
I filled my car up today...and smiled while I done it.

"Gas Strikes" DO NOT work.
For simple reason; what gas you DON'T buy tomorrow, you buy today or day-after tomorrow.
Company drivers CANNOT simply "park their trucks", they will be replaced...by foreign workers if necessary. There aren't enough O/Os and Independents to make any significant difference.
The ONLY THING that will bring about a change is by lobbying your Congressman, Senator, State and Local legislators to allow the expansion and development of our own resources. If they WON'T, you work for their replacement by someone who WILL. This isn't a 'quick-fix'. It will take YEARS to get any change done. If we had been allowed to drill ANWR 10 years ago, we would just now be getting that oil.

Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less
Our "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" campaign continues to gain momentum. Yesterday, American Solutions delivered the first round of signatures - 350,000 - to the U.S. Senate urging them to take immediate action to lower gas prices by drilling for oil domestically.
We delivered the signatures to the offices of Senators Alexander, Clinton, Durbin, Ensign, Kyl, McCain, McConnell, Obama, Reid and Schumer urging them to offer real solutions to our energy challenges, beginning with using more of our domestic energy resources.
But this is only the beginning. It's our goal to have 3 million signatures by both parties' national conventions this fall. Help us reach our goal by forwarding this email to 10 friends and encouraging them to sign the petition.
Watch this video of the first batch of signatures being delivered:

New Research on Domestic Energy Resources
We released new research data this week on domestic energy resources. The data clearly confirms the overwhelming response we've received via emails, letters, and phone calls during our "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" campaign: the American people believe it's commonsense to work here at home to solve America's energy challenges.
In fact, 81% of the American people support the U.S. using more of its own domestic energy resources, including the oil and coal already here, to combat the rising cost of energy and reduce dependence on foreign energy sources.
As the chart below suggests, the agreement is widespread regardless of political affiliation.

Bridging the Technological Divide
David Kralik, our Director of Internet Strategy, was profiled in the Washington Post this week.
The article focuses on our work in Silicon Valley learning from the entrepreneurial, problem-solving ethos of Silicon Valley that is sorely lacking in Washington, DC.
A DC resident for 10 years, Kralik now lives and works in the Valley trying to bridge the divide between the failing Washington bureaucracies and the innovative Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.
Read the full profile here.
Research Update
Nearly 70% of Americans support lowering energy prices by using domestic energy sources, even if it means drilling off our coasts and in Alaska, rather than suing OPEC.
Radio Update
We have a new 60-second ad up on radio stations about the soaring price of gasoline and our nationwide petition drive to Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less. You can listen to the ad here.
Platform Update
Both the Minnesota Republican Party and the Virginia Republican Party adopted key planks of the Platform of the American People this past weekend.Last edited by Pur48Ted; 06.07.2008 at 04.51 AM.

I for one think that cars should not be alloweed to go over 65 period.. If we drivers have to drive trucks that are now governed under 65 than a car should not be allloweed to go over what I just said.. And tell me why in the world do states need speed limits of 70 80 or higher? To me that is one of the prime reasons we use so much gas/fuel in the first place..
